News On The DL.
« on: October 14, 2001, 09:24:02 AM »
I just peeped hiphopsite.com's News on the DL.  This is the best one they've had in awhile.

While Noreaga is priming his Def Jam solo-LP, Grimey; God’s Favorite, partner Capone is prepping his solo-debut Pain, Time and Glory. Capone has recorded over 40-tracks, and plans on releasing his solo-debut in the first-quarter of next year. The first-single will be entitled “Gangsta”, and look for collaborations with Nas, G Rap, Fat Joe, and of course Noreaga. Some of the noteworthy producers who have laid tracks include Just Blaze, L.E.S., and Clue. It is also rumored that Capone has signed a solo-deal with Def Jam as well. After Capone, and Noreaga drop their solo-joints, they will head back into the studio to work on the third CNN LP.

While rumors have been rampant that Cam’Ron was negotiating with Roc-A-Fella, word is he is now talking with Loud Records. Also, could we possibly see Ghostface, Nas, and Royce on Loud Records? Could happen, as Columbia is looking to throw more responsibility Loud’s way since their merger.

DJ Quik will release his next LP, Safe And Sound II, on 1-22-01. Look for Talib Kweli to appear on “7:30”. And is Quik on the verge of signing with Tha Row?

How dope would Pharaoh Monch sound spitting his cerebral science over a Dr. Dre track? Well, we will soon find out as Monch is working with Dre on a few tracks for Monch’s next solo-LP. In other Monch news, he recently set up the “Boy In a Plastic Bubble Foundation”, an organization that donates concert proceeds to asthma research; Monch is asthmatic.

Ghostface dissing Jigga with a new track on Clue’s latest? Seems like Ghostface has not taken to well to Jigga laying claim to being the King of NY! And could we be seeing contributions from DJ Premier, and Cormega on Bulletproof Wallets? Stay tuned….

12-4-01 is stacking up to be a huge release date for hip-hop fans, as Mobb Deep’s Infamy, Nas’ Stillmatic, Warren G’s Return Of The Regulator, Nore’s Grimey, Nate Dogg’s Music And Me, and De La Soul’s Bionix are all tentatively set for this date. Well, that date just got a bit more crowded, as Fat Joe’s J.O.S.E. (Jealous Ones Still Envy) has also been slated for a 12-4-01 street-date. Look for appearances from R. Kelly, Armageddon, M.O.P., Petey Pablo, and Remy Martin. Select producers include Rockwilder, Alchemist, Buckwild, Psycho Les, and Irv Gotti.

Mystic is going in the studio with Bilal to record a remix to her next single “Girlfriend Sistagirl.”

While his work with Self Scientific turned heads, after listening to a few of the cuts DJ Khalil produced (“Kiss U’ & “Van Gogh”) for Ras Kass’ Van Gogh, I am now convinced that Khalil is the most slept-on producer residing in the West Coast.

Xzibit will be executive producing Phil The Agony's debut LP....

The long-awaited Dungeon Family LP has finally been slated with a release date. Look for Even In Darkness to be released on 11-6-01. The first single “Trans DF Express” is already bubblin…
