Bad title:  "Too Late"
Title should have been:  "The Day Hip-Hop Died"

"Too Late"-  Talib Kweli...  off his album Reflection Eternal that he did with Hi-Tek.

This track is kind of like the hip-hop version of that classic oldies song by a guy (maybe his name is Don Henley) who says... "Bye bye miss American pie, drove the chevy to the levy... the day... the music died"

This song is one of the most important records hip-hop has ever produced.  The reason I say this, is because it was released in 2,000 and Talib Kweli asked the question... "Where were you the day hip-hop died/ Is it too early to mourn, is it too late to ride?"  This song was released in 2,000 about 6 years before Nas and all this hip-hop is dead stuff became a major topic of conversation in hip-hop circles.  So he was really a visionary with this track.  And the question is kind of rhetorical, like... "is it too early to say it's dead?"... or "has it been dead for a long time".

Very thoughtful track.  And it's not just the lyrics that make this track great.  Hi-Tek lays down a very musical track, with a variety of instruments, that set the perfect tone and mood to coincide with the lyrics.

Rappers have been talking that hip hop is dead shit for years, before Talib too. Nas is the one to make it a statement and take it too the mainstream.

Yeah, like I said in my thread above... Talib says in the chorus, "Is it too late to ride"... that meant that maybe it had already been dead long before.  He also says, "Is it too early too mourn" which means maybe it's too early to say hip-hop is dead.  It's kind of a rhetorical question to make the listener think.
