DIRK NOWITZKI Officially Named 2006-2007 NBA MVP.
« on: May 15, 2007, 10:53:53 AM »
Well, as expected, Dirk took it...Not my pick, but not as bad as the last two years.

Dirk Nowitzki Wins 2006-07 MVP Award

NEW YORK, May 15, 2007 – Dirk Nowitzki of the Dallas Mavericks was named the winner of the Maurice Podoloff Trophy as the NBA’s Most Valuable Player for the 2006-07 season, the NBA announced today.
The nine-year NBA veteran totaled 1,138 points, including 83 first place votes, from a panel of 129 sportswriters and broadcasters throughout the United States and Canada. Players were awarded 10 points for each first-place vote, seven points for each second-place vote, five for third, three for fourth and one for each fifth-place vote received.

Rounding out the top five in voting for MVP were Phoenix’s Steve Nash (1,013 points/44 first-place votes), the Los Angeles Lakers’ Kobe Bryant (521 points/two first-place votes), San Antonio’s Tim Duncan (286 points) and Cleveland’s LeBron James (183 points).

Nowitzki is the first European-born player to win the NBA MVP Award and joins Hakeem Olajuwon of the Houston Rockets (1993-94), Duncan (2001-02 and 2002-03) and Nash (2004-05 and 2005-06) on the list of international players that have captured the Podoloff Trophy.

The seven-foot forward led the Mavericks to the best-record (67-15, .817) in the NBA, tying for the sixth-best single-season winning percentage in NBA history. Nowitzki averaged team highs of 24.6 points, 8.9 rebounds and a career-best 3.4 assists while setting career-highs in field goal percentage (.502), three-point field goal percentage (.416) and free throw percentage (.904). The Mavericks were an impressive 18-1 when he scored 30 or more points.

This season marked his sixth straight NBA All-Star Game appearance and his first start in the Game, a first for a Maverick. Nowitzki was named to the All-NBA First Team for the third consecutive year.

Nowitzki was the team leader as the Mavericks became the first team in NBA history to record three streaks of 12 or more wins (12, 13 and 17) and just the fourth team ever to have three double-digit winning streaks in the same season. He was the only player in the league this season to shoot at least 50 percent from the field (.502), 40 percent from three-point range (.416) and 90 percent from the freethrow line (.904).

The NBA MVP trophy is named in honor of the late Maurice Podoloff, the first commissioner of the NBA who served from 1946 until his retirement in 1963.

Ahh he deserves it. Thank God Nash's run is over. I'm just waiting for K.B. to FINALLY get his and I'll be good.

Til 2000, 4 out of 8 are BS ... this year, the choice is on point, regarding the public meaning of the award

It seems like when someone wins too much, they tend not to give them the award, especially when some of the earilier ones were questionable. Like in 2005, and especially 2006, Nash was not the clear cut winner, but in 2007 when he should have won, the NBA evened it out by giving it to Dirk. Sometimes, they give it to the second place guy, just because it seems like someone wins so much, it's boring, like 1997 with Malone's win when MJ was obviously the winner. I think last year was Kobe's year, I'd give Nash this year though, but the league always trys to even itself out.

bittersweet.
Cause I don't care where I belong no more
What we share or not I will ignore
And I won't waste my time fitting in
Cause I don't think contrast is a sin
No, it's not a sin

Exactly man, cuz if they did know they would've gave Kobe the MVP the last three years, right?

For real though, aside from the playoffs, Nowitzki deserved it; I wouldn't have been mad at Kobe, Nash, or Nowitzki getting it, and Duncan was great this year too.

The hate from Lakers fans towards Nash is THICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  He takes your boys MVP two str8 years, and the Suns beat the LAkers two straight years.   You know how pathetic your hate looks, right???

Man i dunno what to say, honestly. I really couldn't give a flying fuck about this MVP shit. IMHO Duncan is (still) BY FAR the best PF in the League. BY FAR. They wanna give it to Dirk? Ok.
And Kidd is (still) BY FAR the best PG in the League. BY FAR. They wanna give it to Nash? Ok.

Whatever..

For real..

Sorry, but the fact that Nash is not an MVP caliber player has nothing to do with hate. He's simply not on the level of a Magic, a Jordan, a Wilt, a KOBE...You might deny this on the forum, but deep inside you know what's up.

i think they got it right this year

last year should have been kobe
year before should have been shaq
year before that they got it right with KG
year before that they should have given it to Kidd
year before that could have gone either of three ways, can't hate on duncan though
year before taht, got it right with iverson
year before that got it right with shaq
year before that could have gone either way with jordan or malone
year before that got it right

it's a sine wave if you ask me, some years they hit it on the head, some years they make a semi right decision, and some years they just get it wrong. but either way it all boils down to who gets the ring.

which was

Wade last Year
Duncan the year before that
Billips before that
Duncan Before that
Shaq before that
shaq again before that
shaq again before that
duncan before that
Jordan the year before that
jordan again before that
jordan again before taht

and so on and son on
