the only MTV related channel I watch nowadays is MTV Base.

Damn rite. I cant stand all the other channels except for VH1, KISS & MTV Base, though I onyl watch VH1 and Kiss every now and again, VH1 Classics in the UK sucks IMO, they only play old rock when I put it on...I aint never heard a decent track on there...not even any Beatles.

i'm not bagging on mtv at all ....mtv gets an unfair stereo type...they basically have been trying to push alot of new music into their roster to try push the pop fad out that's what they've always done but they gotta play what the majority of what listeners wanna hear....got behind  a fad and tried to kill it off to ignite another....if it wern't for MTV none of us would be here talking about our favorite music and they got MTV that shows 100% music all the time and it shows TOOOONS of new acts on there that are mostly rock and hip hop....MTV is really just a music culture channle where most of what's played is based around music  that's played on MTV2 most of the time....i love mtv....not neccacarily the pop songs they play but every thing else...which is dope and MTV is not 100% pop they actually play that gorillaz song more times a day than the new n'sync or bsb songs

back in the early 80's MTV was known as the punk rock or new wave channle...then it was known as the hiar band and michael jackson channle in the late 80's, then in the early 90's it was known as the  heavymetal/gangsta rap/ alternative grunge channle, then when pac and kobain died it turned into the sugar ray/smashmouth/puffy channle for a second....then back street boys and nysnc and brintey hit big and they're all the sudden the teeny bopper channle....last year it was soooooo obovious mtv was trying to kill off pop by playing a GRIP of heavy metal bands...it didn't work now they're all FUCK IT ...whatever gets the most request we'll show

anways it's all good i ain't berating anyones feelings toward them this is just how i see them...just going through stages and phases in music

Maybe you are right. But the thing I don't like about mtv these days is that I think they don't play enough videos. Don't get me wrong. There shows are bangin. (real world, road rules, etc) I know they have mtv2 but the videos are so mixed up it's crazy. One minute they'll play dr. dre and the next minute they'll play brittney spears then metalica. I wish they had one hour for hip hop. One for pop, then rock, etc. I wish the box was still here. I miss that. Although most people would wait to see what other people ordered. I liked the box better then mtv2.

yeah i agree with you there that the regular mtv doesn't show enough videos but that's the idea though..regular mtv is just about the music lifestyle and it's sister station mtv2 is where you watch the music videos....but i kinda like the way they flip it one minute you're watching a Moby Song then the next your watching an old school rap video then new shchool  it kinda devlopes a braoder hurisen in people's musical tastes....but yeah i think they should also do that with regular blocks of just MTV Raps and Head Bangers Ball to cator to specific tastes but over all i'm feeling the eclectic feel of MTV2 i just change the channle when they show a video i don't like

I Agree With Jake, MTV Owns Music, And They Try To Be Responsible, But They Gotta Make Money And Play What's Wanted.  VH1 Has Been Much Better, I Think, For Years, Because They're More Apt To Play Talent, Even If They're Old.  For Instance, VH1 Will Have An Interview With George Harrison, Straight Talent, When MTV Prob. Wouldn't Report News On Him.  I Always See Cool Interviews And Performances on VH1, When MTV Doesn't Cater The Old Crap anymore; Once You Ain't Hot, They Drop Ya.

Another Thing, Backstreet Boys And That Crap, Don't Get As Much Play On VH1.
