gasol would fit in the triangle offense very comfortably based off his style of play. and he's one of the most reliable low-post scorers in the league. of course, i'm assuming he still wants to leave that team. i haven't really paid attention to them so i haven't kept up with their news

I think we have a good shot at Gasol... call me crazy but I'd take Gasol over J.Oneal.. Gasol has always proved he's a good scorer in the West, a good shot blocker. Oneal is only better in 1 on 1 D...

Get Gasol, a good point guard, a good vet (I'd like to have G.Hill if he doesn't retire) and we're are contenders.. imo we are 3 pieces away ( people who think an all star will be enough are in denial) to contend AND Team Defense... that makes a lot.. we'll see

nah i agree completely. now the lakers aint exactly in a position to be picky here, i wouldnt mind gettin either one. o'neal is a better defensive player, gasol is the better passer and more reliable low-post scorer. but JO just doesn't seem like the quickest of learners. its questionable how effective he could be with our offensive plays

Over the last six years, Gasol has missed 55 games. Over the same period, Jermaine has missed 101.

Even with Gasol missing significant time in two of the last three years, he's played in 195 games to Jermaine's 164 over that span, even throwing out Jermaine's 15 game suspension in 04-05, Gasol would still average five more games played per year over the last three years.

While I think Jermaine is a better overall player than Gasol, I would rather have Gasol for four reasons:

1. He would fit the triangle offense better.

2. He's younger.

3. He makes less money.

yep.. anyways Oneal doesn't play THAT much on the low post.. taking fade away or 15 footers facing up the basket aren't effective.. you can't say Jermaine shots selection is very good... plus as I said before Oneal did that in the East when Gasol plays in the West, basically making it on his own. Gasol is the best choice (coz Kevin "I like to lose" Garnett isn't on the trade block anyways)

tell you the truth i'd rather have gasol over here as well. he's more of a team player, not a very big ego, definately a world class player.  so i think he'd be the role player everyone on the team would learn from, kobe could be just expected to be the hired big gun. out to score the shit out of teams.

agreed, i would take KG over either of them, but we cant be unrealistic anymore. garnett just doesnt have it in him to request for a trade.

but i got to admit that'd be a plus over here as well. HOWEVER  what we're asking of garnett, odom could do for us for many more years . so i don't like that option of trading odom for garnett. which is ultimately what we'd have to do to get him. If we got him without trading for odom , that would be tremendous. But i'd like to think Kevin McHale really isn't that dumb. but if he is, hey bring him on. i can see him and Odom being a scary front court.

^^^^ the only way we can get Garnett is if he asks for a trade AND to be traded to LA... that's very unlikely... anyways being a die hard Lakers fan, I want to believe we have a bright future.. but honestly when I look at the situation , I really don't see how we can contend for a title soon.. regarding the salary cap situation , without mentioning what's going on between Phil/Jim Buss ect...

well, if KG DOES ask to be moved, i think LA would be one of his choices (chicago being another one). that being said, i still dont think he's ever going to be decisive enough to demand a trade.

as for title contention, many analysts (even includin some kobe haters) have been saying that lakers are just a key-piece away, and as long as they go for trades now and DONT wait for players to develop (and essentially wasting kobe's prime), they'll be fine. only time can really tell tho...

^^^^ Even if you have a 1-2 punch, solid role players are needed.. people underrate the impact of role players.. in the Kobe-Shaq era, Fox, Fisher, Horry were important factors to win these titles.. when they didn't deliver, we didn't win. Nowadays, the NBA is weaker so a team on this level isn't needed to win but I still think we need one or two more role players who can be solid when it counts..

^ oh theres no doubt about that. we have farmar and turiaf, but aside from them, it seemed like we've overrated our own team depth. throughout the playoffs, i cringed wenever i saw both kobe and odom sit on the bench at the same time.

I think people are forgetting how good we were to start the season before all the injuries piled up. You guys really think we're that far from being contenders in this WEAKASS league? LMAO. take a look at the conference finals. We coulda' beat any of those teams with no problem in January (before the injury plague)... just imagine what happens with one year of extra experience and some key adjustments made in the offseason...I can't stand pessimistic doubters with no faith.


Keep Bynum. Only trade for Gasol if you can get him in a steal (Kwame+VladRad+19th Pick). I'd even ship Luke over in a sign-and-trade. I doubt that'll happen, so lets just build on what we have...

How far is that team really away from being contenders? I wouldn't say far at all...And those are all very realistic options. Take into account an extra year of experience for Bynum, Turiaf, Luke, Radman, Farmar, Kwame, Sasha, Evans, etc.... so they'll all be better. And all those injuries we've dealt with will be healed...Keep your head up, Laker fans, we're not in bad shape...PeACe

Yea, something lacks...A reliable point guard to run plays for us and luck with injuries. Those have been the two concerns this season. Address it, and you have a contender. We opened the season thinking we can win the division. We opened the season beating the Suns without Kobe. What makes it so different for this season? The only difference I see is that we're gunna be trying harder to improve our roster/staff than in the previous off-seasons. Mitch is looking to make a move that will address the needs. And if we were so optimistic going into '06-'07, what the hell is stopping the optimism with ANOTHER valuable year of experience together? Healthy Kobe, healthy Odom, healthy Phil. Those are the main needs. Surround that with role players who know how to play their role, and that spells E-L-I-T-E...PeACe
