Andy Garcia said that the studio ain't trying to do this movie. I liked his idea too, do a Godfather 2 type deal with duo stories. In one, have Vito played by DeNiro lead Sonny and his family in the Olive Oil War against the other families including Al Capone's boys. I think it would be great to see a young Luca in full strength, and see Vito lead the family in a war. The on the other side you have Vinny leading the family again, but this time in the drug trade. I know one story had him on the run, trying to salvage the family as it crumbles, and other rumors have Leonardo DeCaprio, which I feel would be a GREAT casting move for the modern story. Then you can end the movie with Vinny leading the family to it's demise, with Michael hiding out in Italy like he was at the end of the 3rd movie, and then show Vito and the family winning the war from their series. You have the family in it's early beginnings, and then you have the end never to have another sequal.
the series is done as far as i'm concerned.
see... that would be my main thing. On the flash backs, you can have DeNiro play a 50something Godfather, and the son of James Caan.... who looks just like him, filmed in the old school film. Make it look like true flash backs, same quality as the OG. Then once you get to the modern sense with Vinny (Andy Garcia) and Al Pacino, you can make it look modern, digital filming and everything like that. Don't tone down the violence. Since the flash backs would be of the Olive Oil Wars, then it would have increased violence compared to 2 and 3. On top of that Vinny is leading the family to it's demise, as his on the run from the cops and hidding out in Italy where Michael is retiring. Eventually he is caught and is running the family from jail. Hell, you can even throw this one in Las Vegas, and tie in the Mexican Mafia or street gangs and stuff like that. So much you can do to end this series out with Vinny, but it's the flash backs of the Olive Oil War people want. People want to see Vito at the height of his power, how the Corleone family becomes the strongest of the 5 families, how powerful and evil was Luca, Sonny being the prince of the city. Everything has always been assumed, people want to see it. With DeNiro aging, and Caan's son still looking really young, the window is very small to get this movie out. If they can't within 5 years, they should scrap it and never mention it again.
