Producers & Royalties

I was a little unsure where to post this!
I'm just wondering, when it comes to credit and publishing Rights..where do Producers stand on this and what do they actually get??

I know the artist gets paid each time the song is played on the radio, venues,clubs et al etc..Right??

So would that also apply to the Producer along with who ever contributed to the production of the track??
Or does the Producer get paid upfront, and does not get any of the royalty cheques??

Any Info on this would be greatly appreciated!

It depends on the type of the deal they strike.

Some of them are work for hire, e.g. a 1 time fee, licenced to that specific artist.

Some actually double dip, e.g. Puffy produces a beat for Puff Daddy productions. And get writing credits. So his production company gets paid, and he Puff gets paid per spin, since he's on the writing credits...

So i guess if you are among a list of producers lined up to produce on a Rapper/R&B artist
it would more than likely be Work For Hire??

Cuz i always fgured it would only be a one time fee, hence the reason why some Producers charge exuberant rates

also, sometimes it just says "Produced by Stevenqbosell for I'm Crazy Fool! productions" if he's a no name, he may just have gotten paid once on some work for hire contract.

But most of the time, when you see "Produced by X for X productions" or something like that,  most likley the producer double dipped.

Most def Dre was double dipping when he was giving beats to everybody a few years ago, Mary, Jada, Eve before aftermath, etc

That Could be true, so it's only in the contract, that the said producer signs!

Such is not the case, unless the porducer does not read between the lines!!

Speaking On Dre,.i read don't know the authenticity of this report, but Dre charges like $300.000 for a beat. that would cover the contract for Hire
then once he Produces the Track-(Artist vocals,mix & master), he gets a percentage of the spins as well, right?
