Snoop&Alicia Keys Perform @ Sumfest: Violence

Snoop Dogg and Alicia Keys performed last weekend (August 4) at Reggae Sumfest, the week-long Jamaican music festival billed as "The Greatest Reggae Show On Earth," that was rocked by violence for the first time in the 9-year-old event's history.
On Thursday (August 2), on the second night of Sumfest, Grammy-winning recording artist Beenie Man performed, and later made a surprise appearance on stage for about 10 minutes as well-known Jamaican artist Bounty Killer was performing. While security guards tried unsuccessfully to pull Beenie Man off the stage, Bounty said choice words about Beenie and then stormed off saying he wouldn't perform as long as Beenie was on stage.
Beenie, who had also criticized Bounty during his performance, then walked off the stage and Bounty never resumed his show. When Merciless came on a few minutes later, saying unflattering comments about Bounty and Beenie Man, the crowd started throwing rocks and bottles on stage. At that point, thousands of people started running out of the venue, and, according to published reports, shots were also fired. The disturbance reportedly resulted in five people suffering minor injuries. As a result of the incident, Merciless never came back on the stage and the show came to an early end.
There were no disturbances as throngs of security guards surrounded Snoop and Keys when the two performed two days later on Saturday (August 4). Shaggy, who was scheduled to perform late Sunday night, was one of over 50,000 people in the audience who watched Keys perform a set highlighted by a performance of her chart-topping single, "Fallin'". She was later seen dancing in front of the stage as a Bob Marley T-shirt-wearing Snoop performed a medley of hits, with some assistance from Kurupt. Sumfest kicked off on July 31 and ran through August 5 at the outdoor venue Catherine Hall in Montego Bay, Jamaica. On Sunday, Shaggy, Ja Rule, Blu Cantrell, and a host of reggae artists were scheduled to perform. Others who appeared at Sumfest this year include Damian Marley, Baby Cham, Vegas, Barrington Levy, Freddie McGregor, and Cocoa Tea. The annual festival has been "incident-free" until this year, organizers said.
