no, I can't recommend any jazz artists... hip-hop is the only style of music worth listening to.

Really good list, but...

that "lounge club, lights low, sipping on something, piano/sax and real bluesy (but not exactly blues) vocals to it  8)" type of jazz (real specific, haha).

Only a few of the ones you mentioned actually use/are vocalists.

It's a rather tough question really, because usually the most enjoyable jazz is all instrumental (that's a matter of opinion however).

To that list, I would personally have added
Dave Brubeck (The Dave Brubeck Quartet)
Modern Jazz Quartet
Dexter Gordon
Herbie Hancock
Booker Ervin
Stan Getz
Lee Morgan
Bill Evans
Cannonball Adderley
Coleman Hawkins
Yusef Lateef
Art Pepper
Gigi Gryce
Pepper Adams
Bill Dixon
Joe Henderson
Hank Mobley
Wayne Shorter
Jackie McLean
Freddie Hubbard
...

...shit, the list is damn near endless, but once again: most of these never use vocals. Hope this helps though.

As for the 'crooners' (nice mentioning, Don Jacob +1)- perhaps you'd have to look more into the direction of
Louis Armstrong
Nat King Cole
Bing Crosby
Bobby Darin
or even a Michael Bublé

So, let me get this right. All of the above-mentioned artists fit the description of "lounge club, lights low, sipping on something, piano/sax and real bluesy (but not exactly blues)" kinda music? Because that's also the type of music I was looking for. Was gonna make a thread about it as well.
It doesn't make any difference to me though whether it's 100% instrumental, or whether there are some vocals. I'm really looking for something loungy, background music while you're having dinner with your girl. Definitely not up-tempo. Who can help me out with this?

Well, most of it is bebop or hard bop. Most of it isn't very slow but very 'cool' nonetheless - however I'm not sure whether it would fit a romantic dinner with your special lady ;).
All artists on that list do fit the description of "lounge club, lights low, sipping on something, piano/sax and real bluesy (but not exactly blues) kinda music, " but it's all well worth paying attention to - not just to have it playing in the background.

Anyway, I personally wouldn't be thinking of bebop-jazz for a romantic dinner - it's usually a bit too far over the top for that. Try some Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra or Michael Bublé instead, or maybe Miles Davis' "Kind Of Blue" or The Dave Brubeck Quartet's "Time Out" (both are albums).

Alright, thanks a lot for the info. Really appreciate it bro. I've been meaning to get into the jazz genre for a while now, but there are so many artists/styles that I didn't really know where to start. Thanks for the heads-up!
I'll definitely check out those artists/albums you mentioned. +1 8)

I've never cared to listen to any of those names ya'll mentioned above... in fact, I only knew like one of those names, "Dizzy Gellespie" and that's just because Snoop dropped his name on the Doggystyle album on "G'z and Hustlaz".

I would never listen to jazz... I haven't even gotten around to listening to all the best hip-hop albums from 1996, and that was my favorite year in hip-hop.  So first I would have to check out all the albums that fell below my radar that year, and then, after that I'd have to check out all the other years of the 90's, then, I'd need to check out all the underground stuff that I've missed recently, and I still haven't gone into all the late 80's golden age of hip-hop because I was too young back then and missed a lot of it.

....maybe after all of that I'll give jazz a chance... naw, never mind, fuck jazz.

Without Jazz, Funk, Soul, Disco etc. there wouldnt be anything called Hip Hop music. You gotta respect those musicgenres..

I would understand if you just said that you dont like that kind of music, but its annoying when you say "hip-hop is the only style of music worth listening to" and "fuck jazz"

-1 to you

I don't HAVE to respect anything, to be honest.  Maybe the "fuck jazz" comment was a little over the top, but it wouldn't be the dubcc if we couldn't say whatever we wanted.

Damn I don't get how you can be so careless about jazz when you listen to hiphop!
