hands down it has to be talib kweli. his lyrics are sick and his flow is evev sicker. he can make good songs that make sense. if he doesent get it, it will be ashame because no one on that list is on his level!!!!!!

eminem is a tight lyricist... but talib is tight as fuck too... i think tha award shoul go to talib.. more peple need to see his skills

I think I said it before. The Lyricist Award is not really about who's the BEST lyricist (on that list, they're all sick MCs). It's about who HAS BEEN the most influential MC this past year, whose lyrics had the more influence or respect or controversy or stir or acclaim or quotes in the past 12 months (from April 2000 with Dre, Snoop, Cube on the cover to March 2001 with Ja Rule on the cover; that's in the new special collector Source Hip Hop Award magazine that came out three days ago). In that sense, although Scarface and Talib Kweli are heavy contenders, Eminem will win, coz it does take into account MMLP lyrics. And HONESTLY, who really had EVERYBODY talkin' LYRICS these past 12 months, from CNN journalists all the way to headz in the streetz (I live in Brooklyn, NY so can't nobody tell me shit about the streetz)???? Think HARD. There's only ONE option...
