What is a Classic Hip Hop Record?
« on: July 18, 2001, 11:09:55 AM »
Yo I feel this needs to be defined because lately people have been calling everything from the eastsidaz new record (which hasn't came out yet) to every to the art of war classic. I understand that it may be your opinion but any cd that you like almost every song on is not classic.

In my opinion for a cd to be classic it has to be something that is original from the rest of the rap game at the moment. (the chronic, aquemini, 36 chambers, illmatic) The production and the lyrics have to be top notch. It has to actually have a point. Not just some cat on there raping to a beat. It should have a big effect on the listeners (not just big fans of the listener). Thats all I got to say for right now peace.

IMO a short description of a classic iz:

Classic = Dope beats, lyrics etc. that iz still gonna be remembered in 5/10 years time.

As Porky Pig said - "The,the, the, the, the, the, the, the that's all folks".

i completely agree, in my opinion a "classic" has to have these qualities:

1) u can listen to the entire album without skiping a song
2) has to have a mix of types of songs (ie. gotta have some party tracks, some deep/meaningful songs and a little gangsta shit)
3) has to be original
4) tight production/lyrics
5) have to be able to feel the artists emotions throughout

but of course these are just my opinions haha and everyone is entitled to thier own!
