How does a rapper being in a movie make it a rap movie?

Friday has a corny plot, there's no denying that. In that way, it's very much like most of Ice Cube's other negro-orientated movies. Fun to watch, but corny in a bad way.
how?
?

The whole preaching moral most of Cube's black movies are stuffed with:
* Friday, telling people to be a man and knuckle up instead of having gun fights
* Boyz N The Hood about ignorance in black youth (they had a good point, but the outcome was far too moralistic without being clever or insightful)
* Barbershop, about caring for the neighborhood and the community

...that's some corny shit, I'm telling you. Preaching without the cleverness it takes to make a point; that's flawed.

Dark Blue. Kurupt played an excellent crackhead.

I wonder what kind of research he did in order to play the part so well?
