Lol...
Anyway, the article mentions it: the employees of our national railway firm went out on strike on the day of Christmas Eve...can you believe that shit? Hundreds of people weren't able to make it back home to be with their families because those fuckers decided to go on strike one of the busiest days in the year. Nice one, guys. Really. ::)

Belgians always manage to take these things one step further... A couple weeks ago the Dutch police went on strike during the football Super Sunday, resulting in all important matches being cancelled. I guess that's where the Belgian railway employees learned the trick...

people in belgium have it good man

we have an office there as part for work, and if they work anything other than 9-5, they get some crazy bonus per hour which doubles their salary at the end of the year .. there is also some fucked up law so that if they get fired, the company has to pay them for another 2 years after or until they find another job

Yeah, but it all depends on the firm you work in and the position you find yourself in, though.

For example, some people work in firms over here and they work lots of overtime, but they're not compensated for it by getting bonusses per hour. However, they might add all those hours of overtime up, and get several days off at the end of the year. That's how it works sometimes too. Depends on the situation, really.

Also, the second thing that you mentioned, that law, is true, but also depends on the situation. I don't have a law degree, so I don't know the specifics of it, but I'm pretty sure it's like this: if you decide to quit your job yourself, then you won't get any money. BUT, if your boss fires YOU, then you'll have the right to demand money from him for a certain amount of time. Or, you no longer have to work there for several months (until you find a new job), but until then, your boss has to pay you a salary.

That's basically how it goes. The main rules. Of course, since we're talking about the law system, there are these little exceptions to rules like you always have.

But it's true, overall, Belgium's got a pretty decent economy system/healthcare/etc... to be proud of. Lots of Belgians don't even realize that.
