Uh... How about the city of L.A. itself? Hollywood, Venice, sunset blvd, sports stadiums, etc. 2nd to none.

Hollywood is a city within Los Angeles, same with Venice, Sunset Strip is in West Hollywood, Staples is in Downtown etc etc.

Hollywood is not a city. It's a district, ala Watts. So it IS apart of Los Angeles city. And yes, Staples is in Downtown, but is Downtown not apart of Los Angeles city? LOL.

Pasadena. Hands down. No city is positioned as well as Pasadena. It's close to the valley. Close to Downtown. Still close to the I.E. Located near the 134, 210, 110 and 2 freeways. It has a great Downtown for entertainment, also.

That was kind of disturbing, that's only a few miles away from me, good thing I don't have any kids yet. Long Beach is pretty cool, because it isn't too far from the rest of L.A., but it also has its own scene with concerts and nightlife so you don't have to go too far most of the time. Only problem I had was most places are 21 and up, so it wasn't nearly as fun when I moved here at 18, but it's great now. It's also on the beach, although not a very nice one, and then not too far to Seal Beach and Huntington, where you can surf/swim.

me and some friends went to long beach in november and it sucked so bad. the downtown area was dead, there was two spots open and no one anywhere, i felt like it was a scene from a zombie movie. And this was a thursday night, i dont know if there is a huge significant jump on the weekends, but i just recently had to go to the long beach convention center two weeks ago (this was in the day) - and i left around 6ish and it was the same thing, dead, no one anywhere.
IMO long beach sucks - Best "District" in LA is Los Feliz. I lived there for a year and there was always something to do, artsy unique people, and music playing somewhere every night.

^^Wow, that's lousy. It's nightlife isn't amazing, but there's a few spots that get pretty cool at nightime, like Mai Tai, the Dubliner, Cohiba, plus you have the Vault and the Blue Cafe for concerts. Thursday nights don't usually get to crazy, which is a little weird because most college towns are active on Thursdays, but Long Beach isn't quite the college city, even LB State has a lot of students.
