What Makes A Song?
« on: April 23, 2001, 04:18:58 PM »
I was thinking of this the other day as I was bumpin "Some LA Niggas".  I thought to myself, "Dam, those drum kicks are nasty".  Shit, go listen to "Some LA Niggas" and try to tell me that the drums on that song aren't incredible.  Those drum patterns play of the bass pefectly on that song.  Dre is a genius, same with "B Please", the drum rhythms are really amazing.  They too go together with the bass on that song.  Anyone else feelin those drums other than me?

If it wasn't for those tight ass drums maybe we'd look at the song differently (I know I would).  Which brings me to the real topic, what particular note or "part" do you just love in a song?  For example, the bass in "Nuthin But A G Thang" is what I think brings the whole song together.  Same with those drum kicks on "Some LA Niggaz" & "B Please".

Name some songs that caught your attention because of something in the beat.  Or just name some ill drum pattern in some songs you like.

I Think The Drums Are GREAT In "Big Egos".  The Finishing Touch On "G Thang" To Me Is That Rattle Thing, That Goes "Jigggjiggggjiggghssssseeeee" Or Whatever In The Background, And The Wah Guitar's Lics....

The Drum Rolls That Break Down The "Fu*k The Police" Beat Are Great...

Drummers Get NO Respect In Real Bands, Too.  For Instance, The Doors, And Jimi Hendrix Had EXCELLENT Drummers, But They Both Got No Respect, Because Everybody Was Focused On The Front Men, And Guitarists.  With A Crappy Drummer, They'd Suck.
