Uh dude, J Dogg, Snoop and Warren did rap together as kids,By the time Nate joined they weren't even a damn group. In other words, 213 was formed while Nate Dogg was in it. Not before...peace-Tanjint

all of you have a point so i dont know which one of you i should agree with, but i think that 213 started g funk, it just sound more like g funk, than dre's stuff.

I think Dre started it. But has anyone heard any old 213 tracks (before they were on deathrow) because I haven't.

Well speaking from authenticity and being around when G-Funk was started. Dre, Warren G DID NOT create the sound nor the term "G-Funk." and many of you have conflicting stories. In the interview section of www.abvdlaw.com (which is going online sooner than you think). The Origin of G-Funk is explained. Not to take anything away from the great production gurus of G and Dre, but coming from a soulful and funk background and being able to play a variety of instruments, when the latter two depended on sampling, Hutch/ATL developed a more orchestrated sound and coined the term G-Funk in 91 when Tupac asked the group, "what do you y'all call this sound?" And Hutch replied it's just the funky shit that hustlers, pimps, and gangsters can ride to." And Dre only produced  a few songs and mixed "Living Like Hustlers." The core of the album was done before they were even signed to Ruthless in 1989. Dre's production was dope, but completely on a different style when Eazy and NWA's debut dropped. Dre or G didn't make it famous, but in order to live up to the gangster image that was prevalent in west coast music, G-Funk was a perfectly coined term for them to use. In fact listen to  Raekwon and Ghost's verbage assault on biters and negroes taking other folks words and "flippin' and bouncin' it on some bullshit." Them Bruhs knew what they were
talkin' about and it can be applied across coast lines!!!

I'm thinkin' Cold 187 (ATL) started G-Funk and then Dre is the one who really made it popular.

ATL started it with sampling P-funk with High bases and later on they started dissing Dre and he's crew for steelin' the concept of "G-funk" when the cronic drops if Im correct.

well...i think that the original G-funk was started by Goerge Clinton...you know...the "G" was even standing for "George" for some time...lol...be4 turnin into Ghetto-gangsta-funk or whatever...:)...but he was the one to create the flava...DRE upgraded it tho...and freshened it.....

dre doesnt claim g-funk, its the press that labels him the creator of g-funk...

but it was warren g that crafted his own sound and labeled it "G-FUNK"

warren g was the one that was hollerin that on all his tracks..then fans, press and everyone else labeled dre's production as being g- funk.

so basically warren g labled his music g-funk.. and because he was is affiliated with dpg, dre etc. everybody says they all make it
