MANCHESTER United star Gary Neville is said to be outraged after two builders created a secret shrine to Liverpool FC under his swimming pool.

Brothers Brian and Gary Greer claim they buried a Liverpool scarf and the club's The Kop fanzine while they were tiling at Neville's Bolton mansion.

And an insider at United reckons Neville, known for his passionate dislike of the club's bitter rivals, is fuming about the prank.

The builders, both Liverpool fans, even took pictures of their escapade and boasted about what they had done in the fanzine.

Dislike

Brian is quoted: "We went to Neville-Neville land to tile his swimming pool. It's blood money I know but needs must. While we were there we rolled up The Kop magazine in a sealed plastic tube along with a Liverpool scarf to create our own Scouse time capsule.

"We buried it under the swimming pool floor before tiling over it."

Brian went further - poking fun at the England international. He said: "In future years, when his house is dug up, archaeologists will be able to see what a passion he had for the Red men (Liverpool)."

Neville, 33, is regarded as a legend among many United fans for his commitment to the Mancunian cause. A popular chant at Old Trafford glorifies his dislike of Liverpool.

Two years ago he was fined £5,000 after his over zealous goal celebrations when United beat the Merseysiders.

Problems

The prank is the latest problem to hit the Reds star's £6m mansion.

It was thought the 12-bedroomed house was finished when scaffolding was removed last June. But in January the M.E.N. reported that builders were back at the property and it would take months to put problems right.

Whether Neville will take any action over the alleged `shrine' is unclear. But one source said: "The only way he could find out would be if he had the pool dug up but I think he's had enough building work done at that house."

The millionaire footballer has spent years renovating his 12-bedroom farmhouse near Bolton.

His dislike of Liverpool FC was only too evident when he celebrated a goal against them too enthusiastically by running the length of the pitch and was fined £5,000 by the Football Association.

Another story has it that angry Liverpool fans tried to overturn his car after spotting him stuck in match traffic in Salford Quays, a mile or so from Manchester United's Old Trafford grounds.

A Manchester United source told the Sun: "Gary is United through and through. He might not like the idea of swimming over a Liverpool shrine."

Another added: "He's aware of this. To say he is less than pleased is an understatement."
