You can do so many different type of bets that can give you huge payoffs. 

The most common bets are Win bets.  You can also do Win, Place (for 2nd), and Show(for 3rd) bets.  I go for Pyramid style Win Place Show bets.  $2 to Win, $4 to Place, and $8 to Show.  I like this bet because it can basically act as a cover bet if my preferred horse doesn't win.  The other bet I enjoy doing is the back-wheel Exactas.  I basically choose 3-4 horses to win, and have a single horse in 2nd.  The one I single is usually either the favorite or 2nd favorite of the race.  These bets usually cost me between $3-4, it all depends on the combination.  You can get a lot of price with these type of bets.  I basically choose horses to come out in 1st that range between 4-1 to 12-1 odds. 


    * Exacta (exactor, perfecta) - Picks the first and second place finishers, in order.
    * Quinella - Picks the first and second place finishers, in either order.
    * Trifecta (triactor) - Picks the first, second, and third place finishers, in order.
    * Superfecta (First Four in Australia) - Picks the first four finishers in order.
    * Daily/Extra/Rolling Double - Picks the first place finishers in two different events.
    * Quadrella - Picks the first in four consecutive races.
    * Pick 3 and pick 4 - Picks the first in three or four consecutive races, not necessarily the first three or four races of the day. Some tracks offer a "rolling pick 3," on the first three races, the second through fourth, third through fifth, and so on.
    * Pick 6 (jackpot) - Picks the winners in six consecutive events.

Yea...LOL. He tends to talk about it once in a while and has horseracers interviewed on his show every now and then. He knows no one wants to hear about it, but he still tries really hard to hype the sport up. He used to make fun of it in the past, but talks about how he was ignorantly knocking it every time he brings it up.

A good friend of mine is an Arabian Horse trainer which obviously isn't a race horse but he's always having massive blowouts during the triple crown races.  I was in Vegas during the Belmont Stakes and there were LOTS of pissed off people when Big Brown finished out of the money.  I was one of them. Betting on horses is cool.

That's also the reason why there was a Pick 6 carryover that day.  Hardly anybody didn't have Big Brown in that leg.

90% of the Owners/Trainers treat their Horses with the upmost care.  Just because you hear about 1 horse dying out of million because of a freak accident doesn't make it animal cruelty.
