Building the Roc Nation
« on: September 01, 2008, 01:47:03 AM »
Jay's new label is still yet to be officially "opened", only an announcement that the deal was made is the biggest piece of news on Live Nation's first big subsidiary.  Let's think about who could be on the starting line-up of this outfit, and who probably won't be....  Jay-Z excluded by default.

-IN-

Kanye West: They are big homies, so the chances are he will follow.

Memphis Bleek: Gotta have a hypeman...

Uncle Murder: He announced in 07 he was runnin with the Roc..

Saigon: Hinted at it in a recent interview, altho I think he was taken out of context.  Iffy.

Tru Life: He was on Roc La Familia, so he should def still be down.

Jadakiss: He announced this year he was runnin with the Roc..

-OUT-  Pretty much all of State Property

Freeway: After his last album was released; on Rocfella, he went on the radio unhappy with his contact with Jay and how his album promotion was handled.

Beanie Sigel: After his last album was released; on Rocfella, he went on the radio unhappy with his contact with Jay and how his album promotion was handled.

Peedi Crack: Also unhappy with Jay, he just signed to Amalgam Digital..

Young Gunz & Oschino & Sparks:  I think these dudes are running their indie game now, also don't think Jay gives a fuck about them anymore.

What do u think?

Hoping for that Saigon album  8) Uncle Murda makes me laugh cause i can't take that dude seriously with his songs so i'd buy that just for entertainment purposes. Whatever happened to Papoose? Last i heard he was smuggling keys to try and free Remy

My guess would be that Jay will do some Roc-a-Fella housecleaning before he jumps ship to Live Nation (after he fulfills Def Jam contract). The way I see it is that Live Nation is paying Jay 5 million per year. Jay can't be stuck with artist overhead that ain't making him any $$. Therefore, he'll gamble on artists who can turn big profits like Kanye West. I just don't see Jay wasting his time with artists who can't sell at least Gold in this day & age. Too much overhead to consider.

Therefore, of all the people you listed above, I'd say Roc Nation will be just Jay & Kanye in the beginning. The rest of them dudes have contract obligations to Def Jam anyway (minus Saigon), so they'll probably just go through the motions over there until it's finished and he'll release them from Roc-a-Fella. Unless Saigon can get the streets buzzing about him again like he had 4-5 years ago, then Jay may consider him, but I doubt it.

Either way though, I also want a Saigon album too. Too bad his situation is at a standstill like other dope artists like Budden, Royce, Crooked I, Joell, etc.

^^ BTW, the $5 million figure is what Live Nation will give him for overhead per year. They'll also give him an additional $25 million for his investments & acquisitions.
