Paperboy Is Back With "The New News" & Platinum Features - September 11, 2008 By : Rud

Grammy Award nominated rapper Paperboy a.k.a Mitchell Johnson, has seen the highs and lows of the music business during his fifteen year career. In the wake of his platinum certified single "Ditty" reaching #10 on Billboard’s Hot 100, Paperboy’s debut album "The Nine Yards" was certified gold by the RIAA. "Ditty" went on to be nominated for Best Rap Solo Performance at the 1994 Grammy Awards. Not bad for a 19 year-old who’s plans had been to play Major League Baseball.

In the years that followed "The Nine Yards", Paperboy released two more albums, 1996’s "City to City", and 2004’s "The Love Never Dies" - neither of these releases were able to match the success of "The Nine Yards."

Paperboy however is again poised for success, and is preparing to release his new album "The New News", which features guest appearances from platinum and gold artists E-40, Krayzie Bone of Bone Thugs-N- Harmony and Slim Thug. Paperboy also linked up with highly successful producer Paul Poli and hip-hop legend King Tee.

Born and raised in South Central Los Angeles, Paperboy saw a lot of the rough side of the streets, but had a happy home life. "It was cool growing up in L.A." explains Paperboy. "I wasn’t gangbanging, but I was around everything. My people were gangbanging. I had lovely parents though and a great home. My father actually passed away last year, and that has made me stronger."

Although Paperboy started writing music at 16, he and the people around him thought playing baseball was going to be the route he took in life. Music turned out to be the route he took thanks to writing music with the lead singer of The Sylvers, Foster Sylver. Sylver had a music meeting in Las Vegas and he told Paperboy that if he didn’t have what the executives were looking for, then he was going to play them his (Paperboy’s) material. Foster kept his word, and the rest is history.

Now in 2008, Paperboy is ready to make headlines again for his music. A star studded cast of guests grace his new album "The New News." Today we have the albums lead single for download "That Boy" featuring Slim Thug. The track can be listened to in one of our Brand New Streaming Audio players as well as downloaded for free. Both those options - as well as the options to embed the song on your MySpace pages or even on our forum are within the link below
