Why do so many Iranians identify themselves as "Persian"?

If you come from ol' school families, they're going to be referring to themselves as Persian. If that's how you were brought up, then so be it. The Persians have thousands of years of history, the name "Iranian" ain't even 100 years old. Plus, most families hate the new regime anyway, it's fucked up the country and brought no real progress. It's these new-school "Iranians" that want to kill the "Persian" name, but there's a huge legacy that is left behind and the real descendants of the Persian people refuse to let it die.
A lot of Afghans and Armenians refer to themselves as Persian also. Why wouldn't that be accepted? They might call them wannabes in white-washed Persian communities in Southern California, but out in the homeland, it's widely accepted because of the history. They might all be separated in different gangs and tribes, but it's still all Persian.

Rod is trippin. most old school families refer to themselves as Iranian, not Persian...the name Iranian goes way past 100 years. To top it off, Afghans are not treated the same as Iranians in Iran. LOL@that claim...Rod is way off. checkmate deez nutz.
