All this gang talk makes me mad, you know that? But looks like I'll have to post something.

This has got to stop. I don't like it when people are talking about the brown never making it, getting glued in gang warfare, posing as the Ku Klux Klan or anything that promotes prejudice or terrorism. It's like saying, "Oh, MC Magic is a Mexican, he has to be a gang banger. Big Gemini, South Park Mexican, Baby Bash, Jay Tee, Nino Brown, all those Chicano rappers; they're gang members and they're going to keep the tradition alive." My God!

I've been listening to Pocos Pero Locos and independent Chicano Rap music since Baby Bash and Lil' Rob in 2004 via Fresno. What I see on TV is these guys making a change. Slow Pain had gang affiliations back in the day, but when an unsterilized needle scarred the Pico Union rapper with Hepatitis C, he got scared and understood the preciousness of life and family; he renounced his gangsta ways in lieu of this development. Sick Jacken has little to no interest in gang banging now for one reason, and that was Big Duke, when he got shot and paralyzed (He continues to talk about it in his music, that doesn't mean he promotes gang activity - big difference).

The issue I'm seeing in these posts is that no matter how hard the brown goes down in the music industry, the brown will eventually go down in history as ruthless motherfuckers who don't give a fuck about fucking with the fuckers or getting fucked themselves. The repetitive use of profanity in my previous sentence should suffice and convince the readers that "the brown will always be hated, hands down."

We need to change this attitude.

it's a trip how 8 hours away from los angeles,
race relations are so much different.

it really is this jail system/gang lifestyle that dictates how our communities work
regarding race issues. like up there it's Nuestra Familia/Nortenos and they allied
with the brothers in prison, so on the streets you see blacks and latinos rolling
together, a long with asians and whoever. they're more about unity up there.
northside hoods won't even beef it with each other like southside hoods do.

and i gotta add this, zod i see what you're getting at but you're getting at it through the wrong way.

first i gotta say i don't bump most chicano rap cuz it's whack lyrically and beat wise.
like somebody said before they kinda do their own thing for a certain group of people.
like if they came out and were just like "yeah im mexican, but i do gangster rap"
as opposed to saying i do CHICANO rap,
right there they'd leave it open for more people to get on that.
but they have to come correct musically.
if they're whack they're whack. all those foos like chino grande, capon-e(he's not even mexican),
snapper, etc. they're just not good lyrically/flow wise, but because they pigeon hole
themselves into this shit like "ima chicano rapper, im repping for chicanos" then they instantly
get that support from people that fit that description and wanna hear that shit represented in music.

yet theres plenty of other mexican rappers out there, even mexican gangster rappers that do
hip hop or gangster rap and don't slap on that "chicano rap" title, and are actually good on the mic
and they have appeal to everyone who likes good music and is interested in the topics expressed.


so im saying, don't immediately give an artist support cuz he's repping for the culture and the raza,
give support to dope artists who are repping for us.

as far as racial issues in hip hop goes, just understand a black kid won't go and cop chicano rap
cd's if it doesn't appeal to him on a level where the music is actually good and they can relate
to it on some level. thats why rappers like the game, xzibit, and snoop dogg are so popular amongst
latinos, because they don't leave anyone out, they make music for everyone and the shit represented
in it is a little more universal.

look at dudes like guzzle and queenie, omar cruz and psycho realm. them foo's have appeal that crosses
racial and cultural boundaries plus they're dope on the mic. i think in order for chicano rappers to find
success they have to do the same.

racial issues when it comes to music...im not too sure. we can ask crips if they listen to artists who are damu's/piru's
or vice versa, that might share a little more insight also. that could be a thing as well.
