Big Prodeje (South Central Cartel) Interview!
« on: October 30, 2008, 11:39:33 AM »
Raptalk.Net hooked up with a well known west coast OG/MC, Big Prodeje of the infamous South Central Cartel crew. In this exclusive one on one interview session, Big Prod (as he is often called) speaks about his current label situation and the independent game.

We go on to speak about a much-anticipated solo album, and the rest of his upcoming projects which include a a group project dropping in 2009.

We also talk about the classic "Gangsta Team" song and how it felt to record such a monumental song.

Plus there is a whole lot more!

Enjoy...

We’re here with Big Prodeje of SCC; how’s it going?

Big Prodeje: Mr. Hood-Good is the name loc (laughs). Hahaha, what it do?

I’m well, thanks. Let’s get right into it; what is your current label situation like?

Big Prodeje: At the moment I have my own situations going down. I have my own label entitled Hood Good/Gangsta Made Productions. I have my new group project, G-N-T (Gangsta Nation Trues) and that will be coming out through Gangsta Made Production/Pannes. I also have a distribution deal with Select-O-Hits, so I am straight ahead for 2009.

Props for that update. Do you feel as if the independent route is the way to go now in days?

Big Prodeje: For me it is as far as getting bread goes. I also have a few up and coming acts that I am going to shop to the majors though.

What is up with the delay of your solo album?

Big Prodeje: I did one and the label went belly up before it was released (laughs). That is why I am doing my own shit now. I’m re-releasing that cd myself in the near future.

Do you have any other upcoming albums or mixtapes in the works?

Big Prodeje: At the moment I have the G-N-T project dropping in the first quarter of 2009. After that I am going to start releasing stuff through my own indie situation I told you about earlier. I’m still getting that together. I’m not really into dropping mixtapes, but my little brother Young Prodeje AKA Young Cali has one dropping soon.

Tell us about the guest appearances and production.

Big Prodeje: As for the G-N-T album, it’s just us (G-N-T). I do have a Gangsta Made Productions joint dropping with a lot of features though. As far as production, it’s 99% Big Prodeje.

Will those projects be released via hard copies in stores or sold via online?

Big Prodeje: Both as hard copies in stores and sold via online.

What do you think about the Ringtone age and digital sales of albums?

Big Prodeje: As far as I’m concerned, anything that puts dough in your pockets is all hood-good.

What was it like making that “Gangsta Team” song with all of those legends on one track?

Big Prodeje: Homie, that shit was cool as fuck. Everybody had respect for each other and it was a beautiful thing.

What’s the status of SCC? Any more group albums on the way?

Big Prodeje: We’ve been talking about it; who knows. Me, my cousin Big Havikk and my little brother Young Prodeje AKA Young Cali will most definitely do something together soon.

What is your all-time favorite SCC song and why?

Big Prodeje: Whoa! I’m going to have to say “U Gotta’ Deal with Dis’ (Gangsta Luv)” and “Ya Getz Clowned.” That’s what started everything for us.

Same question, but pick an SCC album?

Big Prodeje: “All Day Everyday” is my favorite.

What are your fondest memories of recording “N Gatz We Truss?”

Big Prodeje: Shit! The whole process was really the bomb. Homie, imagine somebody giving you all the money you need and telling you to go into the studio and be as hood as you want to be, to keep it 100% real, period. That was crazy homie.

What is about SCC that you think has made you last so long in the game?

Big Prodeje: Man, the fact that we never stopped being regular dudes from South Central. You could see us in any given swap meet in any given hood at any given time. We always keep it real, period. They know it ain’t some Hollywood shit.

Did you think you that SCC would have the impact on west coast rap that they’ve had when you formed the group?

Big Prodeje: In my mind when I formed the group, we were going to rule the whole fucking world homie! (Laughs). We self destructed though and that is the sad part.

Since SCC has been able to stay relevant, what tips can you give to up and coming artists who want to still be relevant 10-15 years down the road?

Big Prodeje: Just be yourself homie. Stay real to the man or woman in the mirror, period. When you look back upon your career, if you’ve been true to what you believe in, you’ll be a smiling ass motherfucker.

What’s going on with LV?

Big Prodeje: LV is doing his thing and finishing up a new CD. Everybody is still on the grind homie, trying to let it do what it do, you know?

Thanks a lot homie. Do you have any last words for the fans before I let you go?

Big Prodeje: Yeah! Much love, respect and appreciation to those die hard Cartel fans out there and west coast rap lovers in general. Thanks for holding us down y’all! We keep the hood good for y’all and that’s what’s up.
