Mikkey Halsted linked up with Anthony Hamilton to bring "The News" a recap of some of 2008's biggest stories.  He also linked up with RubyHornet to speak about the track.  Check out the song and interview below.

Mikkey Halsted: "The News" featuring Anthony Hamilton

RubyHornet:  What's up Mikkey?  Always a pleasure to talk to you.  What's up in Halsted's world on the final day of 2008?  I know you just dropped your video for Karma, and are about to launch your website with a new song, tell us what's up?

Mikkey Halsted: Wutup Treasurechest, It's always a pleasure to holla at you and RH... I have just been grindin' hard...New music, new videos, new site. I have always felt I was 'One of...' If not THE most talented emcee out there, Now I'm tryin' to be the HARDEST WORKING' emcee out there. The Website is just something to add to my internet presence and to have a place that I own where people can come further inside of My world.

RubyHornet:  You have an '08 type of wrap with "The News" featuring Anthony Hamilton.  How did you decide which events to include?  Were these the events that stuck out, or effected you the most in 2008?

Mikkey Halsted: There were so many more that I wanted to include, but I feel like I touched on the heart of what happened in 2008. I tried to stay away from the gossipy stuff that Skillz does.

RubyHornet:  How do you stay informed of current events, what role does it play in improving as an artist?

Mikkey Halsted: Man, I'm an information junkie and a history buff. The present News is tomorrow's History.

RubyHornet:  You mentioned G-Rod's attempt to sell Barack Obama's Senate seat.  Last night he appointed Roland Burris.  Some Senators have said they will not accept any G-Rod nominee, what are your thoughts?

Mikkey Halsted:  Honestly, I think Jesse Jr. was the best candidate. This whole thing might have been part of a greater conspiracy to keep him out. I can't say that I'm a fan of G-Rod, especially when it comes to the disparity in school funding, but I believe that if the people elect you to a post, then you shouldn't be removed or deemed illegitimate until all the facts are out, and you have your day in court.

Ruby Hornet: Before I let you go, do you think it is important for the Hip Hop generation to follow the news and pay attention to what is happening around the world?

Mikkey Halsted: From studying history, one thing I know is that history repeats itself, and those that don't learn from history are destined to repeat the mistakes of the past. Also, because Hip Hop is such a powerful influence throughout the world, it is important that we start injecting more messages of reality, hope and preparedness into our music and conscious. In fact I am considering doing a  quarterly news brief where I will interpret some of what is going on in the news and the things that the Hip Hop generation needs to be aware of. Like I always say "Those that know...know."  I wish everyone reading this the best for 2009. Like Anthony Hamilton says in "The News", 'brothers gon' work it out.' We are all brothers now lets work it out!!

Check out more pics that influenced "The News" below.
