Damn...It amazes me how people  still, after all these years don't understand how different Dre's way of thinking is compared to other West Coast producers and most rappers....I don't know if Dre produced Topless or not but the lyrics say it all....Dre does not limit his mind to just the west coast as far as who he works with or his style of producing music..Dude has been there and done that a long time ago... I love DJ Quik and other WC producers and he might be better than Dre at westcoast beats but outside of the west, nobody is checking for Quik cause he does not think "Topless" when it comes to producing...Still stuck in "westcoast beats" mode...Same with Premo on the eastcoast...Great producer who has always been stuck in "eastcoast beats" mode....This is what sets Dre apart cause Dre is gonna always expand his style to whatever..Even if WC fans are critical of him for experimenting...Some might prefer Quik, others Premo but it's not by accident that Dre has always outsold them units wise not to mention probably richer than both them dudes combined....Dre is the "Topless" producer.

Wheres the west coast sound going though? Maybe living on the west coast got yall deluded but the WEST COAST HIP HOP SCNE IS PLAYED THE FUCK OUT! The last west coast rapper to blow up was Game and although his lyrics are extremely west coast orintated his beats are hardly all replicars of the old gfunk or 2001 sound.

Id be disappointed if Dre was making beats that fit in witht hte current west sound - the fact he's taking it in another direction (with varying degrees of success) is a GOOD thing. Quik or Daz or Warren G can continue dropping G Funk albums but at the end of the day whose checking for them?

Game has the hottest styles of "WestCoast" music out there (really we should stop labeling & using this and every other sound to just only 1 coast but...).  All 3 of his albums and his mixtapes have that fresh sound to it.  and it has that vibe to it, I don't see what you're talking about.  you have to be bullshittin'

- are these not "west" enough 4 u

There's alot of eastcoast records that would sound better than the original if remix'd with a laiback westside groove

What Dr. Dre puts out is "WEST COAST", every time he drops an album it changes what defines "westcoast" music....no matter what it sounds like, even if its not sounding like G funk of 15 years ago. When I listen to 2001 I do not hear G Funk. So if he makes a cd with polka sounding beats, that IS west coast and everyone will follow. He's the only one with that power.

Niggaz4Life wasn't westcoast beats. It was just beats conforming to the art form, yet the album was fully recognized as a westcasost album.
Even though the west does/did had a sound I think the content, song style makes an album more "wesotcoast sounding" than anything in this age of  hip hop, as well as back then, more so now though.

Dre new production is not a different, per se,  than what took place on Niggaz4Life, Chronic but just doing him in his modern way. Besides, he was the west coast sound, so maybe what he's doing now IS the new west coast sound.

Oh yeah, Game does nothing "westcoast" beat wise.

Dr. Dre basically created the term "west coast beat." Twice. With The Chronic and 2001. Obviously he is trying to do it again. Whatever Dre comes up with will be the new west coast sound. Why would he continue to make beats that are 10-20 years old? From what I've heard so far, it seems this album's production is going to be piano intensive. IMO thats dope. Just wondering, how does his production sound like everything else out? It sounds like nothing out.
