Shaq was being labeled "the most dominant big man ever" at the time. He was a little more then JUST an All Star. He was Batman, Kobe was Robin.

Kobe is better at the end of the game, Lebron is better for the first 46 or so minutes. I would still take Kobe for the final shot no doubt. But its not llke Lebron is shit at the end- last year he had the best clutch scoring (last 5 mins) in the league, and this year he is second to Kobe, but WAY AHEAD in assists, rebounds, steals.
