Time to hand Snoop the Credit he Deserves
« on: October 14, 2002, 09:53:36 AM »
Overseer and me were talking about Rakim pioneering word association on another thread.  I think it's time we cleared something else up.

Why do peoplegive E-40 credit for the IzzleShizzle stuff, and say snoop ripped him, when in reality, Snoop was flowin like that in 92 on the Chronic, and isn't that long before 40 got big?

"Dr. Drizzay, Sittin' On Tizzop, Treatin' Bustas Like a Punk A## Kizzop"

"Ya Know what I want yall to do for me? I want yall to take these bizzalls, and put em in your jizzalls, and work em like a strizzaw"

And another thing.  People say that's snoop being lazy, and assume he does that to get away with lazy writing, where things that don't rhyme, are made to rhyme.  NOT TRUE. Lemme show you an example.

Jay Z.  Lazy, doesn't understand the game.

"H To tha Izzo, V To tha Izzay, For Shizzle My Nizzle, Used Ta Dribble Down In V.A."

So, he's rhyming, V and Izzay, which is really changing V and A to make them rhyme.  Then, he rhymes Sure, and Nigga, which is understandable because it's more like a quote now, then rhymes V. A. with V to tha Izzay.. .which means he just rhymed V.A. with V.A.  Lazy, Lazy, Lazy.

Now, look at how Snoop does it.

"I see the Cat got ya Tizzonge
Dogg Got you Strizzonge
Come an Get Ya Sizzome
Ya Know It's All Fizzone
Smooth Like a Prizzm
Get Tha Job Dizzone
We Tha Only Whizzones, On George And Bootsy's Sizzongs"

So, he just rhymed, if you decode the tricked up words, Tongue with Strung, Some with Fun, Prism with Done, Ones with Songs.  It all rhymes anyways with inflection, and he just added the "Izzones" to trip it up.  I think that's talent.  He's also gotten better at stretching his voice to make words that almost rhyme, rhyme (Like Eminem is famous for).

What yall think? I think Snoop deserves major props for his writing skills.

Double Dutch Bus by Frankie Smith. Released .... 1981

Snoop pays homage to it in the video for 'Snoop Dogg' from the Last Meal.
Quote
Give me a HO if you've got your funky bus fare…HO

There's a double dutch bus comin' down the street
Movin pretty fast
So kinda shuffle your feet
Get on the bus and pay your fare
And tell the driver that you're
Goin' to a Double Dutch Affair
Fe Fi Fo Fum
Well I'll be darn here it comes
The Double Dutch Bus is on the street
You'd better get off the curb
Move your feet

Bus fare trans-pass
That's the way my money lasts
Ain't got no car to get around
When I go to work I've gotta go downtown
Now I've missed my train
That's a darn shame
When I'm running late no sleep's to blame
If you've gotta wife you know I'm right
Gotta special man well I can understand
Uptown, downtown everybody's getting down
Say uptown say downtown
Well I've missed my bus I know I'm late
I've gotta do something I knio0w I hate
I'm gonna walk to work fifteen blocks
I already got a hole in my socks
Go ahead and laugh that's okay
Cause what I really wanna say
I got bad feet my corns hurt
To top it off I'm lost for work
Let me tell you what I say
When I'm dealing with the funky sidewalk
Let me show you how to walk
When I gotta do my funky walk
Let me tell you what I say
When I'm dealing with the funky sidewalk
I say sssssssss-sugar

(Rep with children)

Bip, bomp, bam alakazam
But only when you're grooving
With the Double Dutch Man
Put on your skates don't forget your rope
Cause I know I'm gonna see you
At my Double Dutch Show
Rebecca, Lolita, Veshawn and Dawn
Everytime you do the Double Dutch you really turn it on '
Bilzarbra, Mitzery, Milzetty, Kilsan
Titzommy, Kitzerrance, Kilzommy that's my man

Come on get on my Double Dutch Bus
(The Double Dutch Bus)

Let me hear you say do that
(Do that)
Let me hear you say Do that again
(Do that again)
Let me hear you say do the do
Let me hear you say do the do the do
Do the do, do do do do do

Right but this "language" is not a snoop dogg thing...is called Jive and comes straight from the jazz players.
Jay z probably dont know nothing about this particular slang and E-40 CAN SUCK MY DICK cuz this kind of slang doesn't come from the bay...maybe the ignorance about music and his history comes from the bay!
Let me explain this JIVE 'thang'.....
Jive is the slang or jargon of swing and jazz musicians!
Snoop,e-40 and company aren't real jivesters......i'm talking about GODFATHERS OF JIVE (Louis Armstrong, Cab Calloway, Fats Waller),it's quintessentially American, with a language, a rhythm, and a style all its own.....its a code language from early N'Awlins jazz .

I don't know who the hell came up with all the slang, but I do know that a lot of slang was used on bay area records years before it started getting used on LA records.  Problem is not enough peeps recognize the bay, so the terms get popular from snoops records.  And E-40 is the king of slang.  I think snoop is a much better rapper than E-40, but 40 gets the crown when it comes to slang and originality, and humor.

Well, 40 deserves his credit, and i'm sure he probably did originate a lot of the stuff.. but I think him, and Snoop, like homie said got a lot of it from the streets where people had already turned on to it from jazz and blues and stuff like that.  I just think it's unfair when people say Snoop blatently ripped 40 off, when the way I see it, wherever he got it, probably wasn't from 40.

People think that snoop stole it cause hella peeps start using the slang after they hear snoop using it, but its been around way longer in the bay.  Just not enough people listen to the bay, so it isn't recognized.  I am sure snoop knew about it back in the day when the bay knew about it, but he just didn't use it in his songs.
