Jupiters Critic in the Mind of Mars
« on: June 04, 2009, 01:34:01 PM »
I might get some hate from all the die hard "westcoast" only fans in here..

But I'm really feelin this track.  His flow and lyrics are out the world! Sounds like something Andre 3000 would do.

I think its his opinion on the rap game right now. At the begining he personifies it as a girl, but thats not what he's actually talking about.

"ur the star, i've got u on my radar.. I gotta have u involved"  "And all these guys in here are jus jealous, looking at me like they like fellas, i don't give a fuck about none of yall
He's using her as hip hop, like common did for i used to love h.e.r.

"i got ur girl and smashed, she had to be a beauty in the past, i treat her like she gotta little class"
"i gotta keep the dumper on me, no thank u.. I'm not lonely.. I don't need a date, I don't like a girl who likes to get scraped

"you think ho'in is cool? take that mini-skirt off, get tested, go back to school, you'll thank me later, ur pimps a fuckin hater, he's older than me and can't leave the hood"    <he's saying how fucked up hip hop is today, how anybody can make shit on a computer, but nobody knows about the real craft anymore and how all the young kids are making it, but all the older people are the ones making money off them, cuz he later says "flirting w/ boys under 14 years" >

"I make music, u can laugh to.. Radioplaylist cuz they have to"  <refering to how radio and video play is all based on record companies paying to get their music played and nor really on the quality of music>

"I'm not rich, I'm barely here.. I've had a pretty much fucked up year, haven't been back since I left the majors, upside down in my taxes and wages"

and the last lines are the best, he really takes it to another level..
"I don't talk about swag, what is it? a blizzard, can u thizz it? can u diss it? ITS CHARACTER! u miss it?  its America, u visit? did u get on a boat without a ticket?"
"I am Jupiters critic in the mind of mars..Ichini san shi(i dunno, some japanese shit) go Rap Stars! To the present and don't look back, the past don't owe u jack shit, we are leaving them backspit, I kurupted yall jus that quik!"

Gottdamn! he killed it!  he threw in a nice slick line to all the new west rappers that feel they need a handout from the old heads! I would love to know what that japanese shit he said means, so if anybody in here speaks whatever language he spit, please drop a translation.

But yeah, I know beat wise it's not a normal musical Quik track.. but if u got subs, that shit bangs.. And if ur into lyrics.. like I am.. I'm impressed.
I already knew when I heard the title, it was gonna be crazy, cuz u just don't come up w/ titles like that and talk about nothing.. And especially after hearing Quik say it was one of his favorite tracks he's ever done.. I knew there had to be something going on!

I thought I heard it in one of the many Blaqkout interviews he's done..
So I've been skimming thru them trying to find it..

This is what he said in the new dx interview:

DJ Quik: We could’ve easily made a regular, gangster rap record. I think we’ve got one song on Blaqout that sounds remotely like something we would do, and that’s “Fuck Y’all.” It’s just a street record to let our gangster rap fans know that we haven’t just totally turned our back. But at the same time, it’s not for them either. We made a statement as opposed to a diss record. It’s all strung out—it’s got strings and guitar on it, and the guitar is kind of intense. It’s based on a Curtis Mayfield type of thing. Everyone sampled Curtis, but this time I didn’t sample. I just kind of played like he would play and capture that era. That’s about the only time that we stepped back and did something we’re familiar with. Everything else is futuristic. I’ve got a Techno record on there called “Jupiter’s Critic in the Mind of Mars,” where I’m rapping in a ring modulator. Jimi Hendrix, rest his soul, didn’t even think to do that. It’s real cutting-edge, and as a matter of fact, it’s one of my favorite records.

While trying to find the source I also came across the soundhustle.com interview and I found this:

SH: What else can we look forward to on the record?

Quik: You can expect avant garde. “Fuck Ya’ll” is just a throwback, vintage gangster rap hip hop record. It’s not cutting edge, it’s not totally over the top; it’s kind of accessible for people who know us. It’s not really directed toward nobody. My part is personal, but I got my brothers in there and they deserve to hear me say “fuck ya’ll” and hopefully they use that to get back in the game and use that as leverage. It’s tough love. But “Moroccan Blues” is more outside of the box for us. It’s more of a business move too. We can actually get Andrew Zimmern in the video and collaborate with the Travel Channel and get different viewers. And the rest of the record is eclectic in the sense that we have more native records, like “Whatcha Wan Do” is a native record. We got this song called “Do You Know” where we sampled Rafael Saadiq’s “Anniversary” and just put an 808 beat up under it. Nothing too outside of the norm, but just good for the record. We got this song called “The Appeal” that is really insightful, sort of like a record that you are just drawn to, with like “Jaws” music. And Kurupt has this song called “9 Times Outta 10” that is just innovative, like the drum pattern has never been done before in hip hop. And I’ve heard every drum pattern that has ever been done and still came up with a new one, so I’m glad that I’m still sharp as far as finding my own niche.

I got a record called “Jupiter’s Critic in the Mind of Mars,” where it’s totally electronica and techno that’s comedy. Like, I’m not urging everybody to drink Patrone and dance, I’m just clowning about the state of hip hop today, but really light-hearted. I got no axe to grind for no hip hop artists, you know? We’re just having fun together. We’re doing music for us.

Haha, I guess my theory was right!   Sweet, alotta my friends say I over-analyze lyrics.. but I love the shit, where u have to actually think about what he's saying and why is he saying it..  Hidden meanings and all that!  Andre3000 is the best at that... His shit is sooo dope, and u have layers upon layers of what he says, what he doesn't say, and what his overall message is.
But anyways, back to subject.. Alotta people on here were dissing this, sayings "its by far Quik's worst song ever".. but too many people just stay on the surface and don't appreciate all the work that went into creating a song like this.  Everyone is entitled to their opinion, for every person that hates it, theres another that loves it.. As for me, I'm really feeling it, and Quik is too!  One of Quik's best lyrical songs.

Thanks man, yeah I'm trying hard not to listen to the album too much, cuz I want it to still be kinda fresh when I go out and buy it on tuesday.  But its hard when u got it, and its such fresh music.  But yeah, if u are gonna try and wait.. And u still haven't heard this song yet, just know that it is kinda a very experimental Quik beat.  We're all used to Quik tracks w/ dope live instruments and smooth grooves.. But this is a very upbeat techno sounding track.  w/ very minimal instruments.. almost like a drum&bass track.  To me, production wise it is a below-standard for Quik.. But I love the flow and lyrics..  Its a fast rapidfire flow. and he has a crazy voice modulator, that makes him sound like a robot!

Good post and analysis, but I still think, without a doubt, this is Quik's worst track ever... the lyrics were OK, a little bit of comedy, some hidden messages but nothing off the hook.
The beat is just avarage and regarding the ring modulator... what more can I say? I hate it, expecially that digital "bip" that goes on during all the song like the disc is broken.
