If I executive produced Blaqkout it would be a classic
« on: June 10, 2009, 02:04:45 PM »
Wow DJ Quik and Kurupt really dropped the ball on this one. It's a damn shame because musically, there are some dope jams on there. Wasn't DJ Quik saying something about this being a party record? He said he's done doing those gangster records, but it seems like he's running out of shit to say.

I mean, I was listening to Hey Playa and I had to stop and think... What the fuck is Quik rapping about? If you listen to the chorus, Quik is on a different side of the map when it comes to what the song is about. Kurupt was decent on that track but at least he stayed on subject. "I'll present you with nightmares of all the things you hate." "Your poison is my liquor." "You're a nerd, you're a scoundrel." "You're the only bitch in the man's urinal." There's a couple of lines DJ Quik threw out there. He does that on a few songs.

Kurupt was good on most songs, but he occasionally went back to his "I'm G to a T" type lyrics. I also believe he was corrupted (pun intended) by DJ Quik's stupid ideas like some of the tracks on the album. I wanna know what was going through their mind when the finished Watcha Wan Do, Jupiter's Mars or whatever, and Exodus. Like damn do you really think this song is listenable?

DJ Quik is trying too damn hard to blow up commercially. And the truth is he'll never be as recognized as a Snoop Dogg or Dr. Dre. But I do believe if Quik was a perfectionist much like Dr. Dre, it would improve the quality of the music/raps he dropped, and then maybe he would be put up there with the more recognized figures.

And what's up with Problem's pointless skit? Bitch this, bitch that.. Did that really have to go on the album?

DJ Quik should release instrumental albums from now on. He's a musical genius when he wants to be, but he's done on the mic. Kurupt still had some hope on the mic but I believe he was a victim because of the direction DJ Quik took the record.

Overall rating: 3/10

By removing the fillers and with my input this album could have been an 8 or 9 out of 10. DJ Quik, Kurupt... You need to get at me.

I actually agree, but I can't hate on Kurupt's flow too bad. At least it wasn't "bitch bitch bitch streetz is a mutha shut the fuck up eat a dick gobble Kurupt junior DICK!" Quik has a few good productions on the album, but nothing really stand out. It's like I have heard it all before.

Also, I feel you on the gatekeeper shit. First time I listened, I was like did Quik just paste his vocals on here? Lol.

Add Bees to the Honey to the list of "What were they thinking?"
