‘Hangover’ Sequel Is A Go, Says Todd Phillips, Eyeing Spring ‘10 Start Date

Warner Bros. was interested in developing a sequel to “The Hangover” before the movie was even finished. The film’s stars talked loosely about their ideas while promoting the soon-to-be smash in the run up to its release. MTV can now confirm “The Hangover 2″ — or whatever it ends up being called — is 100% happening, according to director Todd Phillips.

“We were thinking of sequel ideas when we were shooting, which sounds cocky, but we were doing it more because it was just fun to talk about ideas while hanging out on the set,” Phillips explained. “Two weeks ago I was saying, ‘let’s see how it works out.’ Now that the movie has really connected, it’s something we’re doing for sure.”

Phillips said they could start shooting the sequel as soon as spring, 2010 and he also confirmed that all of the flick’s central characters will return. “I wouldn’t do it unless all four guys were back. I love ‘The Hangover’ so much and I think we could crush it with the sequel. I’ve never had more fun making a movie, ever. Not that ‘Old School’ wasn’t fun, but these guys were so hungry and ready to kick ass everyday. We just all gelled so well on this film.”

Speaking of “Old School,” the chances of the long-discussed sequel to Philips’ 2003 insta-classic starring Will Ferrell, Vince Vaughn and Luke Wilson won’t be happening anytime soon, if ever, primarily — and understandably — due to the ever-filing schedules and commitments of the cast. “‘Old School Dos’ is a harder nut to crack because we’re dealing with such big stars. It’s hard to get those planets to align right now with Will and Vince and Luke.” Phillips is quick to emphasize that he’s not blaming any of the film’s stars, but rather, the difficulty in assembling all of the pieces of the puzzle. “There is a script for ‘Old School Dos.’ But as of today, I would say the chances of it happening are unlikely.”

“The Hangover,” starring Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, Zach Galifianakis and Justin Bartha as a group of buddies desperately trying to piece together what happened during their Las Vegas bachelor party the morning after, was the #1 movie in America last weekend, debuting with close to $45 million, according to studio estimates.

It's gonna be hard to top the first one but if they take their time and not rush into it, anything is possible.

Technically Stu never had the bachelor party for his marriage with the hooker :)
