Oil is just...a money making fluid, i mean dont u think theyve invented some other energy sources...but hey the OPEC is toooo strong...so there is no chance we see any of these inventions till there is still money in the oil business.

they haven't really inveted anything else because all the alternatives use oil too.
the whole 'oil supply is limited' concept is pretty new, only like a decade.

Hybride cars use oil and electricity.
Bio-ethanol uses alcohol with some oil.

and oil is also used for shit like medicine, plastic (too make sure food lasts longer)

there is research, there's just nothing that works as good as oil yet.
1 glass of oil is equal to about 23 000 hours of manwork
