Brezec expected to sign 1-year deal with Sixers

Agent Marc Cornstein's two longest-standing active clients are Samuel Dalembert and Primoz Brezec. By sometime next week, both will be members of the 76ers.

Dalembert, of course, is the incumbent starting center. The 7-1 Brezec, a native of Slovenia, yesterday agreed in principle to become Dalembert's teammate.

Brezec, 29, is expected to come to Philadelphia to accept what a source is terming a 1-year contract for the veterans' minimum. According to the terms of the collective bargaining agreement, Brezec - with seven seasons of service in the NBA - is entitled to $1,107,572.

Cornstein confirmed the agreement, but would not comment on the terms. Sixers president/general manager Ed Stefanski declined comment.

"I think Primoz will fit in well in [new coach] Eddie Jordan's system because he's a shooter, he can pick and pop, and he's savvy," Cornstein said. "He gives them insurance and flexibility up front."

Brezec, who entered the league with the Indiana Pacers as a first-round draft choice in 2000 (No. 27 overall), is the fifth big man on the current roster, joining Dalembert, Elton Brand, Marreese Speights and Jason Smith.

He has career averages of 7.6 points and 4.1 rebounds, also logging time with the Charlotte Bobcats, Detroit Pistons and Toronto Raptors. He managed career-bests of 13.0 points and 7.4 rebounds with the Bobcats in 2004-05.

He spent last season in Italy, and last played in the league with the Bobcats, Pistons and Raptors in '07-08, appearing in a combined 50 games. He has been a starter in 214 of his career 321 appearances.

PG Jrue Holidy...Louis Williams
SG Willie Green...Jason Kapono
SF Andre Iguodala...Thaddeus Young
PF Elton Brand....Marreese Speights/Jason Smith
C Samuel Dalambert...Primoz Brezec

They currently have a pretty thin roster, but that starting 5=biggest sleeper in the east. Brezec can be serviceable, if he gets the PT...they still gotta sign some more players, though.

any acquisition, really, is thread worthy...brezec was a 13-7 guy at one point in his career, and that was only a few years back...he can definitely be serviceable for Philadelphia, especially if brand's health doesn't hold up.
