De La Soul (Again)
« on: October 28, 2002, 11:31:02 AM »
Man, I've said it 1000 times with almost no acknowledgement, De La Soul gotta be one of the dopest bands that ever existed.  They've been around since 1989, and honestly, every album they made was straight slammin.  Some of their stuff from 1989 is still as fresh as ever, they gotta be one of the top 3 or so most creative hiphop acts ever.

Here's some dope, dope, dope songs of theres to download, this is just straight off my playlist on winamp, if anybody wants ANY delasoul, just get at me online, and I'll send you 100 songs if you need me to.

And here's a quote from Stakes is High, so you can see Plug One is a friekin' MONSTER

"The Stakes Is High, Stakes Is High, You Know Them Stakes Is High....
The Instamatic Focal Point Bringin' Damage To Your Bourough
We Some Brothers From The East With Them Beats That Be Thorough
Got The Solar Gravitation, So I'm Bound To Pull It
I Gets Down Like Brothers Is Found, Duckin' From Bullets
Gun Control Means Usin' Both Hands In My Land
Where It's All About The Cautious Livin'
Migrate Into a Higher Form Of Consiquence, Compliments
That Shouldn't Be  Notable,
Man, Every Word I Say Should Be A Hip-Hop Quotable"

"Now Life Can Get All Up In Ya Ass
Baby, You Better Work It Out
Now Lemme Tell Ya What It's All About
Our Skin, Not Considered Equal
A Meteor Has More Rights Then Our People
Who Be Wastin' Times Screamin' Who They Hated
That's Why The Native Toungues Have Been Officially Reinstated"

"I say G's are making figures at a high regard
And niggas dying for it nowadays ain't odd
Investing in fantasies and not God
Welcome to reality, see times is hard
People try to snatch the credit, but can't claim the card
Showing out in videos, saying they cold stars
See, shit like that will make your mama cry
Better watch the way you spend it
   'Cause the stakes is high"

"
Yo, people go through pain and still don't gain
Positive contact just like my main man
Who got others cleaning up his physical influence
   His mind got congested
He got the nine and blew it
Neighborhoods are now hoods cause nobody's neighbors
Just animals surviving with that animal behavior
Under I who be rhyming from dark to light sky
Experiments when needles and skin connect
No wonder where we live is called the projects
When them stakes is high you damn sure try to do
Anything to get the piece of the pie
   Electrify
   Even die for the cash
But at last I be out even though you wantin' more
This issue is closed like an elevator door
But soon re-opened once we get to the next floor where the Stakes Is High, Stakes Is HIgh, Yall Know Them Stakes Is High"

They got dropped when Tommy Boy folded, and Elektra bought them up.  There's no webpage or anything on Elektra, though, and I haven't heard CRAP about them or a new album.  The last thing they did that I know of was, they toured with Jay Z and played a few shows with Snoop this summer, back in June.

And what sucks is, they were in the middle of their Art Official Intelligence (AOI) series.  There's 3 of em, of course, and they made a series of 3 albums, each one of them being the creativity behind each album.  They released the first 2, and got cut before Maseo had a chance to release his.  They mentioned something about it when they got cut, they talked some MAJOR SH*T on some of the hiphop acts out now, and said they might drop the album for free on the internet.  It's sad man, when you have all these conscious rappers who get no airplay, even Common and them fools don't get played much... but somebody like Jay Z makes another half ass attempt at being creative, and gets played non stop for months.

I find De La Soul get more credit for their older work ("Me, Myself & I" etc). I'm not a HUGE fan myself but i've liked alot of their work, and i'm glad you brought up "Stakes Is High", that song is a 'monster' of a track.

I think that if you take one of the 'O's' out of 'Good' it's 'God', if you add a 'D' to 'Evil' it's the 'Devil'. I think some cool motherfucker sat down a long time ago and said 'let's figure out a way to control motherfuckers'.
