it's probably a combination of both, I remember seeing somewhere that Stat Quo said Dre was scared to release any lil snippet of Detox or any leak because of what people might think. But I think it's also starting to become an excuse lately, I mean the Chronic probably took like 6-8 months to make.

A bit of both. People say he's a perfectionist, and make excuses as to why there is no Detox. Almost 10 years?? lol. Didn't 2Pac create the 7 day theory in 3 DAYS!!!

the 7 day theory was made in a week... hence the title the 7 Day Theory.

thats just a storys..no proof

There's a mad difference between creating an album of beats and writing down lyrics.

The people closest to him always say he's in the studio non-stop, so I think too say he is lazy is just something a pissod off fan would say. He's definitely a prefectionist. Look at his track record...

im pretty sure it was mentioned in XXL magazine. like JG said, Pac wrote and recorded his lyrics in 3 days. mixing took 4 days.
as you can imagine Pac wanted to get outta Death Row pretty quickly.

I have promo's from that album that have "3 day theory" on them. That was going to be the original title, due to the fact that 2Pac went in, in June 96 in 3 days - wrote & recorded, and re-recorded all of his verses. Around 20 tracks (approx)

Its not Dre being lazy that annoys me, its the fact that he takes aaaaaaaages to release anything because he's such a 'perfectionist.' Nothing can ever be perfect when you create something, theres always bits you might want to go back to change or tweak. Whenever I do hear his new beats the majority don't seem to be worth the wait anymore and thats how its been for the last 5-6 years. A lot of tracks sound like Generic variations of the same type of beat and are dissapointing, especially when he's spent soooooooo long crafting a 'new sound' that will blow people away and change hip-hop again.

The ironic thing is Dre could probably make Detox and BLOW the world away by just dipping into his vault for tracks without the need to even record new stuff.

First of all, Detox is a myth.  It's not a real album.  See my signature for the explanation.

Second of all, how can Dre be a perfectionist if all of his productions aren't perfect?  Like the production he had on Hip Hop is Dead was average, the last song on The Big Bang, etc.

I don't think he's lazy.  I just don't think he's really working on an album called Detox in the first place.  He's also older now and doesn't have the energy of a young whipper snapper.  His lasting contribution to music will be executing the G-Funk sound, and we'll always love him for that.  :-*

Same here, I'm starting to think that Detox was just a bad joke. Its been a crazy amount of years of waiting. If Dre ever drops anything, I'm sure it would just flop due to the high expectations of it.

as a producer he is a prefectionist without a doubt.

as an artist he`s very lazy, it`s hard to make a cd full of dre solo tracks. his solo albums were carried by snoop (chronic) and hitman (2001). he even don't wrote his lyrics

Dre's a perfectionist whose satisfaction level is out of this world. I can kind of relate to this as I am a creator myself. My finished product looks completely opposite from my first attempt, and even when I tag my final project done, withing a matter of minutes I find new ways to improve it. And when I turn in my final product even tho a few minutes before I was wowed by my creation, I have now grown bored of it. I think dre creates monster beats, records detox material on them over listens to the track gets bored of it and turns it over to Em or 50. Unfortunately for us, this means unless he gets more pressure for the label to release an album Detox is gonna keep on getting pushed back. I been patiently waiting, but I am now at a point where I've accepted the fact that it might not come out. Dre's scared of begative criticism, especially considering the fact that its his last hoorrah!
