So it's for sure that Tupac had NO input on the final version of the song? It for sure wasn't finished/remixed/etc until 1998? Or did he remix/rerecord it before he died? And he didn't like it? Do we have a source from EDI saying that? That would interesting to read/hear.

The song was remixed in 1998 (albeit with the same Bruce Hornsby sample as the original version), probably because the original one wasn't mixed all that well and didn't sound all that great, particularly the way the beat sounds toward the end of every other bar... it's hard to explain.  And maybe they didn't want to have to get the Run DMC sample cleared.
