I doubt it helps eyesight, but it does help hand eye coordination because of increased strength.  I'm guessing McGwire took steroids in 1996?  That's when he had his huge increase in numbers at the age of 32, but he's always had great plate discipline.  Same way how Bonds had the same walk rate Pre and Post 2001, if you take out the IBB (which is affected by the type of numbers he's putting up)


Either way, talented players do not make the best coaches anyway.  It's more of a teacher role where a player's past, talent wise, has little to do with how successful that person will be as a coach.
