Any fans of jazz?

To me it's one of Americas greatest cultural achievements. A genre with African roots yet undeniably American in sound. Blue notes, poly rhythms, so much has contributed to the black music landscape of today.

I'll be honest I'm not a fan of the squirrley frenetic sounds, jazz ballads speak more to me but I still figured I'd up this as my first post, perhaps just for some discussion on one of the forefathers of hip hop.

Good looking, I've always wanted to go to Memphis and check out the musical history there.

I listen to a lot of Rahsaan Roland Kirk and have heard quite a bit of Sun Ra, Charles Mingus, Herbie Hancock and Miles Davis' stuff but nowhere near enough. I need to check out a whole load of artists though I've barely scratched the surface.
