I haven't been able to hear KOD yet, but I do know that it was advertised better than BlaQKout, Soft White or The G Files. I saw ads for it in The Source, XXL and a few Asian magazines as well. I only knew about those three albums because of this forum.

The bottom line is Tech's music always feels authentic. When he's angry about something, he goes off. I'm actually really feeling this album. And hate it or not, the dude outsells these other acts because he's willing to do his own work. Some artists are just behind in a lot of ways when it comes to keeping their fanbase going. DJ Quik and Kurupt are two of my favorites but they don't tour my region at all. They don't have much of a merchandise line in terms of shirts, posters, or any of that kind of stuff. The bottom line is you can't compare these West Coast artists because they aren't grinding as hard. Tech is selling because he's consistently releasing quality projects.

True, its all down to his work effort and the fact that he makes quality music. People dont mind parting with some money as they know they will be getting value for money.

Tech goes hard though. Personally, if we're talking West Coast albums. Jacka's "Tear Gas" is better in my opinion but Jacka don't have the consistency of Tech and that's not a knock in any way. Independent is different than doing it on a major in that, it's gradual. Majors are all about the first week sales but if you look at Tech's "Absolute Power", it worked its way up the charts. With each album, he did better and better. Now, he has the kind of audience where depending on what album they first caught on, they are supporting each one after. Tech tours the entire country and goes overseas. Since 2007, I think he's dropped three solo albums (one a double album), two collabo albums (which are basically solo songs with a gang of guest appearances), projects for several of his artists, and a DVD or two. He may not have the best independent album every year but the reason he sells is because he has the best grind in terms of creating new product and pushing it to his core audience. There are artists like DJ Quik, Scarface, etc. who are consistent in the fact that their albums are always dope but they don't do often do national touring or put out merchandise or make DVD's with all their videos or create consistent info to maintain the interest of their core audience. I think Tech just has his business on lock.

True! If your dope then your dope. To me Tech is one of the greatest if someone can't understand his skill cause he's too complex, then so be it.

K.O.D. goes alongside some great albums this year. KRS-One & Buckshot, Royce da 5'9, Slaughterhouse, Rakim just to name a few.
