Warriors trading Jackson to Bobcats

The Golden State Warriors traded Stephen Jackson(notes) to the Charlotte Bobcats in exchange for Raja Bell(notes) and Vladimir Radmanovic(notes), two NBA sources with knowledge of the deal said Monday morning.

The trade also sends Warriors guard Acie Law(notes) to the Bobcats.

The Warriors had worked to trade Jackson after he announced in September he no longer wanted to play in Golden State, despite signing a three-year, $28 million extension with the team last year. Yahoo! Sports reported last week that the Warriors were committed to parting ways with Jackson by the end of the month.

Two Warriors players told Yahoo! Sports that Jackson’s unresolved status had become too much of a distraction and that the team would not be able to make any significant improvement until he was traded.

Jackson had asked the Warriors to trade him to a contender, preferably the Cleveland Cavaliers or any of the three Texas teams – or the New York Knicks. He instead goes to the Bobcats, who entered Monday in second-to-last place in the Southeast Division with a 3-6 record. The Bobcats have never made the playoffs.

The Warriors rid themselves of a disgruntled player, who only two months ago served as the team’s captain, and gain payroll relief in the process. Bell’s $5.3 million contract expires at the end of this season while Radmanovic is due $13.3 million over this season and next, provided he exercises his option for 2010-11.

Including this season, Jackson is owed about $35 million over the next four years.

The Bobcats are hoping Jackson can fill their need for a big-time scorer. They entered Monday ranked last in the league in scoring with an average of 82.4 points per game.

I just read this on twitter.  Not really sure how this will effect either team.  I guess Steve Jackson will be happy hes out of GS now tho.  Golden State has some SERIOUS issues from the players, to the coach to office.

well he requested the trade back in the summer; and they stripped him of the captaincy (I think upon his request).

chemistry? from what i read, its clearly the coach and the front office that fucked up, why would they get stephen curry who is the splitting image of monta ellis talent wise (lol he kinda looks lik him too) when the owner promies  jax and ellis to get a big man to make them a play off contender.


ellis is looking to get traded too and hes pissed, i doubt theres going to be chemistry, plus raja bell is injured, even though i like vladi, hes only made 1/3 of his shots this season, which is horrible.

I understand why Garbage State traded Jax to the Bobcats, get back at him for his attitude.  1 warriors fan on a newspaper forum said this trade was up there with the worst trade in Warriors history.....Robert Parish & the draft pick which turned out to be Kevin McHale for Joe Barry Carroll.  Wonder if it was worse than the Chris Webber for Gugliotta trade, which also sent that franchise back more than ya know.
