SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP)—Charlie Weis arrived at Notre Dame flashing Super Bowls rings and talking about outscheming opponents. He leaves one of college football’s most prestigious programs without even matching the record of the two men who were fired before him.

Athletic director Jack Swarbrick announced the decision to fire Weis on Monday, saying in a news release: “We have great expectations for our football program, and we have not been able to meet those expectations”

“As an alumnus, Charlie understands those goals and expectations better than most, and he’s as disappointed as anyone that we have not achieved the desired results.”

Who would take a chance on a guy that failed bad in Notre Dame the way he did? That's not a rhetorical question. With the current coaches on the market what team out there is thinking of firing a coach and would want Wies. The only team I see that might end up with no one after this is whole mess is Buffalo and maybe they'll take him. I can't think of any team.

i know, because Peyton Manning can do anything; including flying to the moon & back.

The problem with that argument is that college is different than the NFL. In the NFL you have a GM and you don't worry about the players. As a college head coach, you recruit your players, and are responsible for who comes in. If you lose because of bad players, that's on you. When Weis was winning at first, he was winning with Tyrone Willingham's players. Weis himself was not good at the whole college system. Though it's not unheard of for a NFL person to win in college, as Pete Carroll and June Jones each have enjoyed success in college after being long time NFL people.

No, he can't do anything. For example he cannot sit on the bench with 5 minutes left down by three scores and let the back up finish out the game.
