ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) -- The Boston Celtics don't expect Paul Pierce back any time soon.

Pierce was in so much pain from a right knee infection that the All-Star forward called team trainer Ed Lacerte on Wednesday around 3 a.m, coach Doc Rivers said. Lacerte went to Pierce's house and took him to the hospital, where they drained fluid from Pierce's knee.

Pierce didn't make the flight to Orlando for the Christmas Day game against the Magic. He is expected to miss at least two weeks.

"What he's going through is pretty significant," Celtics guard Ray Allen said. "It is serious. Because me knowing Paul, he's always practicing and he's always playing, so for him not to be here, it must be very significant."

The injury surprised the Celtics.

aging is what is going to keep the Celtics out of the Finals.

not just this injury alone, but the fact this kind of thing is bound to happen to KG or Ray Allen too.

they should get rest as often as Doc Rivers can give it to them & still just make it to the playoffs; because it doesn't matter what seed they have going into the playoffs, they will take the East if the Big 3 is healthy.

i just really doubt it considering kg has slowed down and aged. the magics also have a much deeper bench

i think they would, but the point is i don't think they will be healthy for that series & the Magic will sweep them.

but a healthy Cav team can beat an unhealthy Celtics team.

if they aren't at least 95% in the playoffs, i give them no chance to win.

the c are riding on the hot wave of perkins and rondo, who's wave's might be a a litter exaggerated due to the fact allen pierce and kg get so much attention. it's the same wave players like deavon george were riding during the three peat laker years.

the East is so weak, and the elite teams aren't seeing Boston in my opinion, they step up for the big games

Cleveland and Orlando when facing Boston just can't cut it

I definitely wouldn't bet against them to reach the Finals, how could you put your money on the other East teams?

^because if they aren't healthy, they won't win; simple as that.

i mean, you could say that about any team, but the Celtics, with aging stars are most likely to be hit with injuries.

Horrible job today. I don't mean to discredit the Clippers because they played damn near flawlessly in the crunch time, but the refs seriously did all they could to give the Celtics the win, only for it bite the Celts in the ass when Rondo choked away both the free throws (which would NOT have been called 99% of the time) instead of letting the game go into OT. Baron shits on them as the result.
