Call me when Barroid throws 29⅔ straight scoreless innings in the World Series.

that is such a mindblowing stat that doesn't it make you question the devlopment of the game back then?

no way any pitcher is getting away with that in this day and age.

i mean, the lack of training & working out & the fact they had regular jobs in the off season; i don't know, it always made me question.

could Babe hit a Johan Santana? or a mid-90's Randy Johnson?

arguments like this are what makes Baseball >>>> any other sport.

fun fact: Babe Ruth was a member of a Golf Course that is seconds away from my house. ;D

Whitey Ford broke the record in the 60's for longest scoreless streak in the World Series and that 40-50 years after Ruth did it.  It is still possible.  And you bring up a good point could Babe Ruth hit Johan or Randy Johnson.  Though Babe was feasting off of the best during his time.  Though the talent today except for a few is probably superior to the player of the past.  Lets see todays player play under the same conditions of back in the day.   And I work over by JFK which happened to be the St.Albans golf course where both Babe and Ty Cobb played.

There's no point making those comparisons. I could argue that if babe could hit Walter Johnson when training consisted of beer and hot dogs then how good could he have been if he trained like they trained to day? I don't like comparing eras. Babe is the best of his time, and if they had multiple MVPs allowed in the 20s he may have won every year.

Why can't we make these comparisons.  Because  the eras in which they played in are so different ?  Comparing era's and players is half the fun of Baseball.

but then i could argue Walter Johnson could have been fifteen times better if he devoted his entire life to baseball & training for the game & maybe he would never have hit him.

maybe he would of, but we'll never know; so it stands Barry Bonds the GOAT.

just thinking of how the game has changed but at the same time staying the same, just minor adjustments, is fascinating.

How does it stand that Barry Bonds is the GOAT ?

Arguing for Bonds over Ruth doesn't bother me. I'm probably a bigger Bonds fan than I am of Ruth's. I've never cheered for Ruth. He's before my time. I'm just saying that the stats are in Ruth's favor. And it's not a should, could, woulds, thing with regards to his MVPs. You weren't allowed more than one when Ruth played. The year he hit 60, he didn't win it, because he already had it.

if Peyton is so "GOAT" because he has some MVP awards, it's only fair to call Barry the GOAT, with seven. ;D

in all honesty, i think Babe is the GOAT, because he could pitch; but i will always be skeptical on the development of the sport back then.

It wasn't that you could only win one during your career.  The rule was you had to wait 7 years after you won a MVP in order to win it again.

Of what, what does that even mean ?

like if the good players of Babe Ruth's time even have a contract in today's game?

i'm sure the greats, like Babe & Wagner could play, but would they be nearly as good?

could anyone from then hit Pedro in his prime?

could Pud Galvin or Ed Walsh or Eddie Plank win Cy Youngs today?

what i mean is, how good were they back then compared to players today, who pick up a bat & a ball at the age of four & then never put it down; who dedicate almost every part of everyday working out and getting better; those Dominicans who spend everyday of their lives from the age of four to sixteen, playing baseball everyday; the fact the game wasn't played with those guy from the islands & Japan & blacks, how good was the competition?

how many outs do great left handed hitters get in today's game just because in the seventh inning a coach will bring in a specialty lefty, whose soul purpose of getting paid is to get a lefty out; they didn't have setup men like that back in the day.

baseball = amazing. 8)

I never called Peyton the GOAT. I called him the best of the era, just like Bonds.
