Bradford City manager Stuart McCall set to quit

McCall's Bradford have won only eight of their 27 league games this season

Bradford City boss Stuart McCall says that he is ready to quit as manager of the League Two club.

McCall will meet with joint-chairman Julian Rhodes on Monday to discuss his future after Saturday's 1-0 home defeat by Bury left them 16th in the table.

"I will sit down with Julian on Monday and I'll do what's best for the club," McCall told BBC Radio Leeds.

"But it's coming to a stage now where it is time for somebody new to come in. It's just not meant to be."

The 45-year-old took over at Valley Parade in May 2007 and threatened to leave at the end of last season after Bradford failed to make the play-offs.

Saturday's defeat by Bury was their sixth at home this season and left the Bantams 12 points outside the play-off places.

And McCall believes the signs are there that it is time for him to walk away.

"I just think it's time now to get a lucky manager in. He might not be the best manager but if he can be lucky that would be good for the club," he said.

"The players have merited more points than we have got this season and we should be ninth or 10th, three or four points off the play-offs and unfortunately we're not.

"I'm hurt because I wanted to be a success here and the bottom line is I haven't been.

"It's not been for a lack of effort and I couldn't have had more support from the players, staff, Julian as the chairman and the fans.

"If there was anywhere I wanted to success it was here. I had two great spells here as a player but the dream I had of being a manager and getting success has not come off."

i'd hate to see McCall leave, he is a City legend. the team needs to be more motivated and finish the chances we create*.

Yeah I heard about this on The Football League Show the other night. A little sad considering how much time he's spent with the club as a player and then manager, but yeah it seems like its probably for the best.

It certainly didnt look like your lot were going to get out of the hell-hole that is League 2 with him still at the helm. There's plenty of decent managers currently in the market and with bradford having the ability to rise much higher than their current standing in the league I can see someone with ambition joining.

Of course...theres always the cheap option though so you never know who you'll end up with.

^bloody legend. it's a shame we couldn't do anything this season. in august i thought we'd be pushing for promotion.

as he said in his interview, he hopes for a lucky manager. i hope we get that too. the amount of times we've been able to win games (majority possession, tons of shots) and done nothing is ridiculous... if anything it's the players fault, not the gaffers, but he's the one in the firing line...

ps. the car fall. does he spill a drop? hell no!!

Nah not at all really. I mean, he's not the WORST manager, but from knowing the calibre fo football in League Two from going to a lot of games in the past few years Bradford really should be doing better than they are. At the very worst they should be challenging for automatic promotion each year there and they've been quite a way off for the past few seasons.

One thing I will say is that it is a tough league to get out of. Any 1 of the 24 teams could get promoted at any given point in that league. A lot of teams are on an even keel there.
