THA LAST MEAL
King Tech Quadafi:
Yes yes yall
Prince Tech back with another review for ya azz
When Snoop Dogg dropped Tha Last Meal on Dec 19, 2000
it was at a turning point in his life. His career had been slowly recovering from the disaster that was "Da Game...".
While "Da Game..."'s followup "NL Top Dogg" was Snoops worst selling album, it was a huge follow up, a step in the right direction. After a couple memorable guest appearences on Dr. Dre's "2001", and a stellar album from his group Tha Eastsidaz, Snoop served up Tha Last Meal.
1. Intro 5/5
Dont usually rate intros, but Dre kills it on the beat....buncha bitches just singin for Snoop...great vibe..
and sets off the album in the proper way
2. Hennesey N Buddah 5/5
Snoop always keeps it bangin on the first song of his albums, and this is no exception. The best Dre produced joint on the album....Kokane flippin the script on the hook.
A pure banger that just gets you in the mood for dopeness
3. Snoop Dogg 3/5
I aint feelin this cut. Timbalands beat was pretty wack, Snoops vocals save this track.
4. True Lies 3.5/5
(feat. Kokane)
A decent track...however, we expect better from Dre n Snoop. Kokane does a good job on the hook.
5. Wrong Idea 4/5
(feat. Kokane, Bad Azz, Lil Half Dead)
Bangin beat+ dope guest apperances+ a dope snoop verse= a bangin track....very simple formula
6. Go Away 4.5/5
(feat. Kokane)
Meech kicks a thundering beat for this track....Snoop repeats a verse but its all gravy. Kokane comes correct .
Just ya good ole Snoop banger.
7. Set it Off 3.5/5
(feat. MC Ren, Ice Cube, Kurupt, Rage, Nate Dogg)
I expected so much from this track. I mean, dont get me wrong, look at the guest list, the beat was cool, and the song was not that bad. But Dre shoulve produced this.
Rage and Ren saved this track.
8. Stacey Adams 3.5/5
(feat. Kokane)
Nice smooth chillin track. Kokane kicks a sombre relaxing hook and Battlecat keeps it funky on the trizzack.
9. Lay Low 5/5
(feat. Tha Eastsidaz, Nate Dogg, Butch Cassidy, Master P)
DAMN! I cant believe it!...No forget the amazing Butch vocals...the bangin Dre beat...the gangsta shit Tha Eastsidaz was spittin and Nate Dogg's great chorus....
DAMN...Master P actually spit a decent verse!!! :o
10. Bring It On 4.5/5
(feat. Kokane, Suga Free)
Pamona's finest hooked up with the King of LBC. So far, Suga Free has yet to disappoint me with a verse, and despite this being Kokane's 6th appearance....he still keepin it funky fresh.
to be continued,,,,,,
King Tech Quadafi:
11. Game Court
(feat. Mac Minista)
Great skit...Alot of yall dont like Mac Minista but Im a huge fan of him, Ill take him over Big Pimpin anytime.
12. Issues 5/5
Snoop just spittin some real shit in a sing song flow...and Meech kicks a real smooth beat. One of my personal favourites on this album.
13. Brake Fluid 4/5
(feat. Kokane)
Another one for the bitches...this time Snoop tellin em to pump their brakes...Kokane's chorus here is one of my favourites,, the beat is kindy cartoony (re: real slim shady)
but everyone comes correct.
14. Ready 2 Ryde 4/5
(feat. Eve)
Both Eve and Snoop vibe off each other real good. Scott Storch kicks a sick beat and let em do they thang.
15. Loosen Control 3.5/5
(feat. Soopafly, Butch Cassidy)
Its a smooth, chillin track with Butch harmonizing real smoothly on this bitch plus Soopafly again proves why he needs to be blowin up anytime now...
16. I cant Swim 3/5
The beat is cool....but other than that, i dont know what the fuck snoop was thinking
17. Leave Me Alone 5/5
Battlecat kicks a SICCCC beat and Snoop starts singin ..yeah thats right, he starts singin, I cant hate, he sounds dope, Ja rule can take some lessons.
18. Back up off me 2/5
(feat. Master P, Magic)
Dont get me wrong, this song aint that bad. Magic comes off dope and the beat is crunk,,,but it dont belong on this album not to mention Snoop sounds horrible on it
19. Yall Gon Miss Me 5/5
(feat. Kokane)
My favourite song on the album, Scott Storch flipped a good sample on the Rolling Stones tip...and kicked a g funk synthed out beat that'll take ya back....plus Snoop spitin some real shit, going over his whole career.
Overall, this album was bangin, the process that began with NL Top Dogg and was continued by Tha Eastsidaz ends here (it sure as hell didnt continue till Paid the Cost..). A great album, full of positive vibes, great beats and good ole fashioned west coast hip hop
4/5
Jome:
Great review, I completely agree, with the exception of "Leave me alone".
That's a skipper for me..
This album is good to have in these lacluster PTC-times..
Lord Funk:
Spot on review. Everytime I listen to this album it gets better. Some of the songs show the producers at their absolute best, like Meech's Go Away and Jelly Roll's Wrong Idea. And doesn't everyone remember hearing the opening of Hennesey N Buddah and thinking "He's back on track..."?
Agree with you on every point bar two - one, Mac Minista over Big Pimpin'? Never. Won't hear it. Bring back that fly poet, I say. Two, and I'm sure people will shoot me down here, but Back Up Off Me is 5/5. Just that one crunk Southern tune on the CD made it dope. No Limit ain't so bad in little doses.
