New Trend In Hip-Hop: Rappers Talking About How Happy They Are?

Allow me to derail this thread before somebody takes Infinite serious.

Happy Hip-Hop has produced some great music lately, most notably maino's album.

Maino served for about a decade and his release has made him very happy. Instead of going back to drug dealing he became a rapper, and made one of the best albums of 2009. He Isn't the most lyrical rapper but he has proven he can make good music.
When Listening to "If Tomorrow Comes" you can just hear his love for life.
He even showed love to his haters.

Another 'Happy Rapper'  is Joell Ortiz, he also has some serious songs but in allot of songs you can just feel his love for hip-hop.

If there is indeed a trend of happy rappers, I'm glad for them. Obviously their backgrounds have changed since the 80's and early 90's and they are faring better than the earlier guys. More power to them and I hope their neighborhoods continue to produce more successful people over the generations to come. Why should we only want to hear them when they're down and out?

To be honest, i aint got a problem with it if the musics dope and its natural, i aint gotta problem with it. If someones in a situation where they happy, they made it and making dope music, good for them, better that than speaking of raping your uncle etc...

Also these cats who be happy will naturally speak on issues they dont like, whether it be to do with a bitch, the haters, the fame, expectations etc...so even if they come across as happy, they'll get mad too, jus a different mad.

Some of these cats have made it and are happy/can handle the situation without havin to be as angry as say an eminem.

Again the same thing is, if these people suddenly starting making a bunch of gd up joints, the same people would be hating on them for faking, so someone speakin on smiling, i have no problem with because theres enough joints of different types out there anyway.

honestly though, if i had a billion dollars, i'd be happy too.

if Jay-Z started rapping about suicidal thoughts, everybody would be like "nigga please".

You have to ask yourself a questin though, does Joe Budden represent the overall trend in hip-hop or is he a excetion to the rule?

And Jay-Z for example, I have always felt that rappers like him and Puffy are trying to sell a glamorous lifestyle to people; and to me, that is a change from the hip-hop of the 70's to 90's.  Artists like Jay-Z and Puff lead the way for a trend that has finally come full circle, where rapper aren't selling their skills and art, as much as they are actually selling a lifestyle.  Look at the Rockefella ads from the Source and XXL, they would have the artists chilling in upscale clubs afterhours with blonde women and bottles of champaigne.  Contrast that with the early 90's and YoMTV rap host Fab 5 Freddy going to the hoods where rappers came up and doin interviews and selling the real lifestyle that artists came up in; they tried to show something real the fans could relate to, and sell that back then.

Here is Puffy's former sidekick Loon talking about how their goal as artist was to sell a lifestyle to kids that wasn't totally representative of what was really going on.  They only wanted to show one side of fame to the kids, who were easily taken in by it all...

I love Loon's Islam interviews, haven't seen this one thanks.  Yes, he is so on point now. I hope one day he decides to rap again, with a positive message and something truer..  I love what he's done with his life now.  Inspiring.
