Getting Started

What up yall Im new to this board but have heard some of your stuff and its pretty good.  Me and a few homeboys write and rap some, but dont know much about recording.  You know what equipment, best quality and etc... So far I just downloaded fruity loops 3.56 and dont know what the hell to do with it.  Anyway were going to be running into some money (about a 1000)pretty soon and was wondering if yall could give me some advice on what to buy.
