Liars- Sistworld (great album)
« on: March 17, 2010, 09:19:34 AM »
Fuck man, do I love Liars.  These guys are just amazing, and a top 5 band for me.  They have 5 albums and each album has their own unique sound, except for their self titled album (which was their 4th album and they decided to make a sort of "hits" type of record).  I'll give a sample of a favorite song in each album in case anybody is down to check them out.

This is from their debut album They Threw Us All in a Trench and Stuck a Monument on Top.  They sounded like very much all the other post punk bands coming out at the time, very Bloc Party but things quickly change.
"Mr Your on Fire"
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch/v/Pza75oWGB2c" target="_blank" class="new_win">http://www.youtube.com/watch/v/Pza75oWGB2c</a>

This is from their 2nd album, They Were Wrong, So We Drowned .  This is when they really changed up their sound.  It's kind of a concept album on witchcraft lol.  Crazy shit. Love it.
"There's always room on the broom"

Many people feel the third album is their masterpiece, I prefer their 2nd album to this but of course still love Drum's Not Dead  This album I think started the whole vocal driven type of songs in "indie rock", but these guys did with very non traditional type of songs.  Lots of non typical drum beats from a rock song.
"If Fit when I was a kid"
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch/v/0xOGIqoaGaw" target="_blank" class="new_win">http://www.youtube.com/watch/v/0xOGIqoaGaw</a>
The change in about minute 2 is just fucking epic.

Liars' 4th album was their self titled one, and like I said before they kind fucked around with this one and just made a hit collection type of album.  Every other album has a very distinct sound to each album but this one is just literally like a collection of great songs.
"Plaster casts of everything"
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch/v/s-r8HWri41s" target="_blank" class="new_win">http://www.youtube.com/watch/v/s-r8HWri41s</a>

And finally, their 5th album, Sisterworld,  which came out earlier this month is a very dark, droney type of album. I think this album is up there with their 2nd and 3rd albums.  These guys just keep on making great music
"Proud Evolution"

Well, the first video really threw me off since I can't stand most variations of punk rock. I came back and checked out the other stuff though. My favorite of your selection is "There's always room on the broom". Any sort of concept album is cool in my book and the video was awesome. I don't see myself becoming a fan, but I do appreciate the dynamic range in content. Too many bands are afraid to venture outside their label approved niche and its apparent these guys don't give a fuck, more power to them.

Nice, where did you see Radiohead?  I missed Liars when I went to see Radiohead at the Hollywood Bowl during the In Rainbows Tour but I'll be able to see them in April.
