Aftermathmusic.com wrote a Shaunta biography. Do u guys have any additional info on her? Or some pictures?
Shaunta is the first female rapper on Dr.Dre’s label The Aftermath. She is straight outta Compton / California, the home of gangsta rap. After Truth Hurts just released her debut album "Truthfully Speaking" (You can see Shaunta in the "Addictive" video), it looks like Shaunta will release her own debut album in 2003. It won’t take long until Shaunta will also show her talent. Dr. Dre said about her release: "Along with The Eminem Show and Truthfully Speaking, I hope to release the debut album from Shaunta next year. We just didn't want to put together a regular show with turntables and mics. We put together a real show, and we kept it gritty. I think people really appreciated that. And we kept the audience's attention, so there was no time for trouble to start."
Even before her time on Aftermath Shaunta performed Songs by Paris Davis, Rodney Jerkins und Jean Bryant. She also worked with Chino Xl in the past. She worked on two songs of his album „I Told U So“, which was released in 2001. These two songs are titled „Baby Momma“ and „Sorry“. She was also featured on Da Brat’s "We Them Bitches", Brandy’s "U don`t know me", Montell Jordan’s "Let's Ride (Remix)" from the Dr. Dolittle Soundtrack or Shae Jones "Bad Boy (remix)", just to name a few. Not that long ago, the soundtrack for the movie „The Wash“ was released, on its soundtrack album she also performed two songs. The first track was „Benefit Of The Doubt“ featuring Truth Hurts and the second a solo joint called “Good Lovin’”. With this song Shaunta brought her own style a little closer to the fans. Her sexy Lyrics combined and her soulful voice seem to be made for each other.
Shaunta also worked with hit producer Timbaland. Fans can check her out on a remix for Timbalands & Maggoo's Song "Luv 2 luv ya”. She also showed up on LL Cool J’s "Doin it" Tour. But when she wanted to work with Dr. Dre, the doctor (AftermathMusic.com) was very surprised. She thought he was only down with Timaland, but after a few serious meetings with her, Timbaland and her label, she split with Atlantic Records and signed with Dr. Dre's Aftermath. She was searching for new adventures and didn’t want to stay as a so called "One Hit Wonder". She just told Dre "I'd be down with you if you'd let me". That’s the kind of artists Dr. Dre is searching for. He doesn’t have to watch and correct what all his artits are doing. Eminem, Ice Cube, Rakim and also Truth Hurts have the talent to work independently. Of course, every artist needs some time for devoloping and this time is over for Shaunta. The track "Good Lovin" on the "The Wash" Soundtrack was produced by Shaunta herself.
In a recent interview Shaunta was asked about other female rap artists. She said about Lil Kim that "She is dope, but she needs to leave Atlantic records", and about Da Brat "She is incredible" and last but not least about Foxy Brown "Fuck her. She is an insecure, immature little bitch and she is just mad because her man wanted to fuck me". On the 21-minute Bonus-CD of the 8Mile Soundtrack called „The Shady/Aftermath Sampler“ are unreleased song of the label featured. For example a song by Eminem („Stimulate“), a short freestyle by 50 Cent over the beat of “Til I Collapse“ from the album „The Eminem Show“ (2002); Joe Beast with „Gangsta“, Brooklyn with „The Weekend“ and Shaunta with a blazing joint called „California“.
Long time we didn’ know about Shauntas great voice, so the hardcore rap that will fit perfect to the emotional Aftermath sound. With Shaunta, Dr. Dre, who’s one of the main persons responsible for Hip Hops worldwide success, just found another upcoming star! You can be prepared for a hot year of 2003 and of course Aftermathmusic.com is at it again...
