San Diego gave up on him and he was only 3-4 years in the league. They thought he'd never be the answer. They drafted Rivers, and then Brees just came up and did better than San Diego thought he'd ever do. They figured it was a fluke and traded him well he still had value. Brees was not a benefactor to his new system, he just matured at a certain time. I was always hoping this for Russell, and maybe someday it will happen. But not as a Raider.

They didn't trade Brees.  They just chose not to use the slavery tag on him again like they did in 2005.  But that dude won out in the end ;D

The Chargers were a great team that last year of Brees. They were also a great team the next year. But they had LT in his prime both those years to carry the offense, and the defense finally came into it's own. I'm comparing how good Brees looked when the Chargers were a bad team. The Brees that most people were calling to be benched in favor of a 40 year old CFLer.

The point is simple, and everyone sems to think it's the QB when it's the team. When the team sucks most of these great QBs look very average, and if staying on those bad teams the whole would never be looked at anything special. So the true greats, the Marino's and Manning's who shine like stars despite the team being good or bad, and never truly great, are the ones that should be heralded higher than the QBs that just happened to be on the great teams. Brees's best numbers on SD aren't even close to Manning's worst numbers on at least a couple very horrible Colts teams (98 and 01).

and Saints going over the Vikes wouldn't have happened if Jesus Christ was playing QB if the Vikes just held on to the ball those 3 or 4 times.
