I think Xzibit had the best chance as EVERYONE was on his dick for awhile....unfortunately, he dropped the ball.  I agree with others, DRE is the only one that can do it, he has done it three times and even though he is average right ow expect that he will do it again

Cube could drop a big album, but other than that, i dont know.  If Knocturnal would abeen handled properly, he could ablown up to even though he aint my thing.   Basically, the west wouldnt be where it is right now if NWA woulda came out, if a 213 album had dropped already, if Hittman and Knoc woulda formed a group and dropped right after 2001, and if SNoop and Dre would did the reunion album.

Artists like Ras kass are amazing but will never ressurect the west because he is an artist who should not make commercial tracks....his best chance was Home Sweet Home, but everyone knows what happened with that song!

Roscoe, his advance album was truly terrible but he does have potential.  Heiro, Defari, andd Phil Da Agony are dope, but do not have the right sound to blow up.......and that is what u guys mean by bringing the west back, right?

Quik and Snoop worked together in the past, and somehow the results were only average.  I would love to see it again, as i dont know how it couldnt be dope.

Soopafly (is dope as hell, that is true, but what he does will go unnoticed my majority)
Roscoe
Crooked I (too rugged to be huge, although the ROw is trying with Sisqo and Ja Rule and IRV)
Defari (one of my favourites, but too plain to do any damage)
Phil Da Agony (see above)
Krondon
T-Nutty
Shade Sheist (terrible boring style, although he has made some incredible songs like WHere i wanna be and John Doe)
N.U.N.E.
Knoc-Turn'Al (maybe my least fav. but the one with the most potential of this list, hope his career is not fucked by having to redo his album)
Hittman (this guy is dope, but too plain.....needs to from a group with Knoc, they compliment eachother perfectly)
Baby S (kind of a Snoop rip off, has a couple dope songs, no chance though)
Caz (album is dope, but who besides us knows who he even is)
Eastwood (this guy can RIP the mic, but being on the ROw means no album, which means no chance in hell)

Not one of the above  artists will ever blow up; even if they make great music it is doubtful anyone besides westcoast fans will hear it.  So, how much chance do they have of bringing the west back?  What is it you guys want?  I just want quality music from the underground artists, and great commercial music from people like Nate, Warren, Xzibit, Snoop, Dre, etc...............

To be honest, i do not think we have seen the artist that will bring the west back!  I mean, there has gotta be an undiscovered cat out there somewhere who is talented beyond words...

Maybe the west does have the artists, but the artists are fucking themselves over.  I mean the commercial ones; if Snoop and Dre spent a year making  reunion album, it could bring the west back singlehandedly.  Not sure if people are even gonna care now, but if 213 came out like 5 years ago it would been huge, and as a result Nate and Warren would maybe still be releavant as solo artists.  basically, i think all the former deathrow artists and DPGC are the best chance despite the little success they are having currently.  They gotta take the time, keep it in the family, and make the music that everyone knows they can.  Everything is rushed and all over the place with no direction..........hopefully this all gets turned around, cuz the west coast is the music i love the most, but i am just not feeling it like i was (not like any rap is THAT dope right now)......

Face it, all these people who we wanna see succeed and that are tight won't save the west.  Roscoe won't do shit, same with anyone on Doggystyle.  Crooked I has a good chance but will he ever drop?  Knoc missed his chance, so did Shade Sheist and Xzibit didn't do shit with his album.  Hittman is out of the picture as well.

Dr. Dre is your man, right now the west is in a slump, mutherfuckers are lookin over the west coast, and now that Dre is on the d/l so is the west.  Make sense?

"Detox" will make perfect timing to save the west when it drops, and we'll be back in theforefront.

it ain't that the west is in a slump, its that these radio stations and video stations and magazines ain't fuckin with us.  And a lot of rap fans these days are fucking bustaz.  Look how much ja rule and nelly sold this year.  U tryin ta say that those albums are better than any west coast release this year.  It ain't the artists, its the fans.  Real fans recognize real music.  Fuck the hip-pop suckaz.

i dont know man..people can change over the years...alot of the people are still new...and u never know if they can blow...dmx is rather rugged and he blew up...i dont see why Crooked I wouldnt be able to...i mean just cuz theyre underground or unknown now doesnt mean they wont be anything in a few years....snoop, nate, warren, dre...they dont have much left...theyre already in their 30s....nobody wants to hear a 30+ guy rappin about the streets....at least i dont

Right now the west is getting hated on, Xzibit's album was not that great but it was better than most of the shit that sold a lot of records.  Snoops album was not that great but it was better than a lot of shit that was out there.  The #1 reason the west don't sell is the labels.  If you look at it all the west artist are on shitty label's.  WC is on Def Jam but why would Def Jam focus WC when they have all these artist that have "big" artist who sell a lot of records.
The other reason is the west coat lacks quality.  We only have a hand full of good producers, and a shit load of wack ones.  Jellyroll fucked up Xzibit's and Snoop's albums all buy himself.  Fred Wreck could be so dope, but it seems like he rather make futuristic beats than that hard core shit I hear from him time to time.  Dre and Ric Rock seem to be the most consistant.  Eventhough Dre has been slackin as of late, if he was high off Kokane he would not make as bad of beats as jellyroll.
Another reason is right now the only rappers selling records are those who appeal to  rich whites.  Lets be honest, Rich Whites are the ones who are buying records right now, untill true hip-hop peeps stop bootlegging and start buying The west will never be back.  Right now the west has Snoop & Xzibit, but all the east has is Jay-Z and Nas, as far as real hip-hop goes.  Hip-hop as a whole is not what it once was, If your not Eminem or Dead your not Selling double and tripple platinium.

Dr. Dre

Everytime the West came back Dre was at the forefront.

Straight Outta Compton - Put L.A. on the map. Yes Ice-T came before but the mainstream didn't pay attention until N.W.A. dropped this album.

The Chronic - Put the West Coast at the top from '92-'96. Influenced the whole sound of the West.

2001 - Resurrected the West Coast.

Detox - ???

Yup, that's rite.
The West isn't going nowhere without Dre.
And that's why it's so ironic that 2 Eastcoast-cats is the 2 dudes that can bring the West back.
50 Cent & Rakim!!
Ice Cube can do it too, 213 can do it, but I don't see them coming out before 2004.
Dre could have brought it all back with Snoops album though, but maybe Rakims album will do the trick...

Sup Yall?

First off, have you guys noticed, that during the West's domination 1992-1996 & 1999-2001 the Westcoast formed a team... formed with Dre, Snoop Dogg, DPG, Xzibit, Tha Eastsidaz, Ice Cube and even with help from Eminem. Nowadays, they don't have that unity anymore, so if any artist was to bring them back.... who do you think it would be?

To me, Roscoe... he has some major potential. First off, the kid is young and he is hungry... and the dude also have sex appeal. I'm not trying to get homosexual remarks now, but we all know that music these days is all about seeing and not hearing. If you have an image, you will sell well.  He's also a very solid rapper. Roscoe can bring a good mix of rhymes with his music. He's probably the one rapper I'm looking forward to next year. Of course, everyone else could say Crooked I... but, I don't know

-Big BpG

eactly my opinion.....i think also crooked i has a chance

This album recieved 3 Mics in the Source.....BS
Go support him and go buy it!

I think Crooked I's gonna hit like ja rule , Nate dogg's push the coast, Knoc gonna drop and get the man on second while cube gonna put man on 3rd, and dre's gonna step up to the plate n hit a grand slam boyz , and that's just how it's gonna be, and to top it off there's the 213 , HOLY SHIT i'm SO excited for that one

snoop ain't bringing back the west if he's droppin shit like his last album.  Soopafly, although he's a tight producer and rapper, will not blow up because Snoop won't allow him to, and will hold Soopafly down so he doesn't overshadow himself.  That's why you see a lot of other producers on Dogghouse albums instead of using Soopa, which would actually cost less than using 20 producers.

but I truely believe Crooked I can bring back the west, and if it involves being on Murder Inc. songs to do it, than so be it.  because once Crooked I's solo drops, i have a feelin everyone will shift back to the west because of crook's skill.  Eastwood and Roscoe also have a good chance of bringing back the west.

The thing is that the older west coast artists *cough*Snoop and Dre*cough* are either holding back other west coast artists or making their sound more eastcoast to sell records.  The west needs to come up with a new sound of their own; they need to distance themselves from Dre, DJ Premier, Kanye West, Just Blaze, The Neptunes, Timbaland.  The key to the success of the new west coast is to create their own sound.  One of the common criticisms on this board about Tha Row is that their production is wack.  Now, how can peeps say that if there are very very very few tracks out there that has been produced by their team.  There's one person talented enough to change the game and give the new west coast the sound........DJ Quik.  Although he's been around 10+ years, his sound has evolved, and would be the perfect canidate to lead the younger west coast acts to tight music and maybe consumers will pick it up and the west will be on top.

Exactly, I hate to say it but the West is dead as far as gettin commercial recognition. Its sad  but face it, its the truth. in his post, teecee listed all the future West Coast rappers and I dont see anyone in that list that can blow up and bring it back. But what does Bring it Back even mean? Bring it back like it was in 92-95? Impossible. It takes more than 1 or 2 rappers to bring it back, it takes a whole crew or label to get recognition. If people like myself dont mind about Quality music and not record sales and all that, West Coast Rap will live Forever.

But even if we dont wnna face the truth and care about the sales they are imortant cause west coast rappers  get dropped over and over again if they dont sell. See what happend to easki and look whats gonna happen to WC. If you think about it, its very sad if you have a West Coast vet like WC who been in the game for years, had commercial sucess with the Connect Gang a few years back (add Tha Liks, Nate Dogg and Warren G to that list), and then in 2002 he has the best Rap single of the year and one of the most overloooked album (together with Dj Quik) and cant sell more than 75,000 in his first month. its just sad. Mainstream just dont care for the West anymore. the combination of the west workin together could bring the west back on top, not everybody tryin to do their own thing, we need unity.

we can only hope that theres something or someone whos  coming with something new and completetly different and blow up, but the west as a whole, the chances are not lookin good imo. Like many people said, the big names like Ice Cube or Dre are probably gonna be the only ones who can change things again.

but as everybody can easily see, west coast rap is a very sensitive topic, you would never have to talk like this bout the East or the South.
